Distance warning alert

So I have had my 2015 GL450 for a month now and it seems like the 'distance warning' light (and a beep) has alerted me in situations where there was no imminent danger (no close calls). One example is, we have these toll lanes here in the Seattle area, and I was going 70mph while the cars in the next lane were doing 5mph (non toll lanes were stop and go). I think it has momentarily beeped 3-4 times since I got it (never for the wife though).

Do other people experience the distance warning alert going off when it feels like it should not?

Happens to me as well. Sometimes it brakes for me, since in some situations I'm more of a "late braker".

A gaggle of MB's
I have never had it "false auto emergency braking" - and I have yet to have been in a situation to trigger "correct emergency braking".

In light of the fact it's a "alert" - I prefer that it should alert me - and I have identified at least one bad driving habit I have - where I assume the car ahead of me turning off the lane will continue that turn at even pace - which means I should be more aware if they don't follow thru their turn off at even speed.

I have "false alerts" that are set off - without traffic - by traffic-cams/traffic-counters - I have gotten used to that.

Overall _ I like having it over not having it.. I consider it added safety for sure

I look further than one car ahead unlike Mercedes' camera/radar system. In doing so I can anticipate options other than slamming on brakes. Just the other day in rush hour traffic, I noticed ahead that there would be a sudden stop occurring in my lane. I decided to check my mirrors and change lanes, moments later, while changing lanes, my Mercedes slammed on brakes as I was finishing the lane change.

I'm ok with the system because it could save me from rear ending someone some day and I enjoy learning and maxing out the parameters of this system and the vehicles I drive.

My 14GL550 seems more sensitive in it's alerts lately- like going under an overpass on one of the end lanes, or driving a road that curves with cars parked - in all cases I was still safe distant - it was OVERLY safe. But it's never braked for me in this situations.
I only remember one time when it the brakes locked and the seatbelt seized - I was driving over a metal plate in the road - somewhat recently. It takes your breath away when it happens.

somehow I don't think the kind of 'takes your breath away' you are talking about is the same kind as when I met my wife... :-)

My wife drives our 2017 GLE-350 and when backing out of our garage she ran into our trash container, breaking the passenger side tail light cover (approx. $500.00 replacement job). I tested the rear passenger side sensors and was very disturbed with the results. Manual states the alarm sounds at 32", ours is not even close to this distance. Our alarm sounded between 3" and 12"; clearly insufficient time to react. Had there been a child in the driveway it would have been a disaster! This is a very serious issue that needs immediate attention. I realize this sensor is just one option to rely on when backing up, but with this technology an individual becomes accustomed to its use.

My '14 GL450 does the same thing to me, if the sun is bright overhead and there's a long skinny shadow across the street from like a single tree or something it'll pick up on it and beep a warning, and on occasion when approaching those solid white stripes across a lane that marks a stop sign that'll trigger a warning, but I've luckily never had it hit the brakes on me (thus far. knock on wood)

Same here from time to time (i'd say maybe once out of 5 or 6 hours of driving?) will goes off for no good reason, no apparent pattern on what will trigger it...
