GL550/63 shock fail

I had noticed that my car had been feeling a little less planted than usual over the last number of months...2 months ago I had replaced my rotors and pads (back to OEM spec but using the latest part numbers from a 2017 which greatly improved feel and also less brake dust) and hadn't noticed anything weird while doing the replacement.
2 weeks ago, I swapped to my summer tires and there it was! oil on one of the rear shocks!! the car has 55K and it had never occurred that these shocks would fail (MB says they are probably good till 100K)... well they aren't! Dealer wanted $3K to fix ($800 per shock +labor) they said it wasn't covered under my extended or original warranty!). I found the shocks (I believe the 550 and 63 use the same) for $500 each. I followed directions from another forum person https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...-tutorial.html
and fixed it myself.... changing the broken shock made it much better, but when I replaced the second rear shock it really made the car feel sooo much better!!!
So be sure to check your shocks!!
Where did you find the shocks for $500? I think the cheapest I found was $800 or so.
I already did mine but for the future!
Dealer said they last around 60k miles from their experience.
