Switched power fuse - which one?

Just picked up a 2015 GL and want to hardwire a radar detector. I see that there is a small fuse box on the side of the passenger dashboard with fuses 10 thru 22 but it doesn’t look like any of those are switched. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Have searches multiple phrases for radar detectors and dash cams but not finding anything. Thanks in advance.

There are two fuse boxes with switched fuses: one is in the engine compartment - you can fish the wire through a rubber grommet in the firewall, but you'll have to remove the cabin filter housing to get to it. The other is under the second row seat.

Here's an old post on my dashcam installation: https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...ml#post6591787

For all others in the same predicament. I spoke to Moir local MB shop foreman today and he advised that we CAN tap into the passenger side console fuse box and any of fuses 19-22 will work for the RD. He did advise that they do not shut off immediately and may keep power to the RD for 15-20 minutes. The fuse box under the drivers side second row can be used but a longer run. Fuses 150 or 151 can be used as switched power source.

2015 GL450
There has been a lot of suggestions and speculation regarding the Switched on Power fuse location...
I just completed the hardwire install of my Dash Cam in mt 2015 GL450

**** The Fuse Block A, located in the Engine compartment - Passenger side is where the Switched-on power block is located.****
The whole right side section which has the fuses for the Headlights are all Switch-on.
In addition there are approximately 5-6 blank connections where there are no fuses connected are also switched on.

I remoced the under dash cover on the passenger side and
1. Found a rubber grommet where the FAT RED Main Battery cable comes into the cab through the Firewall.
2. used a very thin hanger to push through the grommet
3. found the hanger coming through the firewall into the engine compartment pulled it back a little
4. taped the power supply wire with a in-line fuse, snaked it too the fuse box
5. Installed a Male spade terminal en to the wire and plugged it in to the fuse block.

The rest is the easy stuff, snaked the wire from the camera next to the rear view mirror to the passenger side along the top of the wind shield moulding and down the RH pillar and into the area under the passenger side dash.

My 2015 has a little door for the Body VIN #.
I placed the wires and the fuse behind the cover for the VIN # and will have easy access for any future additions and access to the fuse if necessary!

It took me an hour from locating the Box, testing the Switch-on power and installing the wires...

I will try to add pics later on but...
The brown and red wires in the overhead console is NOT the solution for the Switch-On power supply.

If you have any questions, feel free to write.

just connected my dashcam to the fusebox by glove compartment. My GL is a USA spec 2013 GL450. connected constant power to F15 (hazard) and acc to F19 (A/C module). The camera has not turned off in over an hour. It still continues to record. So I am not sure if this thing about power going off after 15 to 20 minutes is correct. If so, can you please guide me as to which fuses to use? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately all the fuses in that bank are constant on. If you want the dashcam to turn off when you turn off the car, you need to tap into the fuse box under the hood. I used one of the fuses in the blue bank. https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...ml#post6591787

@mtm - thanks I saw your post. I need to figure out how to get the wire into the engine bay. I can easily plug the ground and the constant +12V into the fuse box by passenger, but have not figured out how to get into the engine bay.

You state that you removed the under dash cover. Can you please advise how you did this?

TIA.

I didn't remove the under dash cover. To get to the rubber grommets in the firewall you need to remove the cabin air filter box on the passenger side of the engine bay.

Thanks. I'll try that. Although I have changed the cabin air filters before, from the engine bay, I did not know you can get to them from the passenger side. Probably requires removing the inside of the glove box?

I meant passenger side of the engine bay, not inside the cabin
