GL 500 2013 (not yet, but soon)
GL 550/500 over 100K miles

Hello everyone,
I'm new here, as I am planning to buy MB GL 500 (called 550 in US) with the v8 4.7l 435HP engine.
The reason I'm posting here is these cars are definitely more popular in US than europe, especially Poland where i come from, so there are more users and more info about it.
The car had only one owner in the past, was well kept, looks very good but it has nearly 100k miles now. It's 2013 model.

My question is - is there anything to worry about with this mileage?
Are there any typical and expensive issues I may have for another 50-80k miles?

Suspension? Engine? Electronics? Timing chain?

I'll be very grateful for your replies and help on this.
Regards
valdek

Shocks are a known issue for this vehicle.

Hi, Thanks for replies.

I've browsed the history of this particular car, and noticed the rear shocks were changed twice (35k miles and 75k miles) - customer complained about car not being stabile. Front shocks have never been changed so far.
What surprised me was how of then the front rotors were changed - 5-6 times. Looks like most of the changes were caused not because they were used, but because of the driving wheel/car shaking during breaking. Few people complained about rotors in these cars but i am surprised it's that bad!

The timing chain was also changed at 75k miles - another surprise. So was the hydraulic pump of the ARS (Active driving stability) - is this something similar to the current 'Active Curve System?
Also the transfer case had to be changed at around 65k miles.

Other smaller issues were:
one head lamp was taking water
third row seat could not be folded back
Front seat memory didn't work.
issues with 360 camera
Key-less go - door knobs issues.
Fuel gauge wasn't showing correct fuel level
and few others.

Does all this sound reasonable for 100k miles car or is it too much?
I am especially referring to the expensive timing chain, transfer case, rear shocks changed twice, and the hydraulic ARS pump.

All issues mentioned above were fixed and it looks like the car is currently in very good condition.

Thanks for all your opinions.

Kind regards
valdek
