Best tires for gl450 on 20” rims
Hi my current continental tires are wearing out on my 20” rims and was wondering which brand/model do you guys recommend. I want something that will go for a long time and lasts. I placed an order for michelin premier ltx but not sure if that’s the best. I saw a review saying the nitto 421q are nice but never heard of nittos. Tire size is 275-50-r20 hopefully someone with experience can gove me some input.

I recommend the Michelin Premier LTX although I got good performance from the original equipment Pirellis. The Michelin were quieter and when I traded the GL they had 38k miles on them with at least 5k remaining.

I know tire rack has some of the better pricing out there for tires ; and there reviews are usually spot on.
I like the Pirelli verde all season plus tires. They’re running great on our gl and the road hazard warranty with tire rack has been great so far.
https://m.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?zip-code=20814&width=275/&ratio=50&diameter=20&rearWidth=255/&rearRatio=40&rearDiameter=17#0
Also some gl owners have opted for sizing up their tires to 275/55/r20 to get a little more sidewalk.
Also pricing tends to be a lot less for those tires and you have a lot more choice.
Hope it helps!

My Pirelli's causes vibration between 65 and 75 mph. After having them balanced many times, have had no luck so looking to move away from them. I did not know that installers would install sized-up sidewall tires.

Which pirellis?
The oem Pirelli scorpions are known to be bad. They cup and have horrible tread life.
The pirreli scorpion verde all season plus are great though. At least I think so. Have had no issues with them; but keep in mind I run a dedicated winter set.
I hear great things about the Michelin’s premier Ltx; but they’re pricier and softer (wear out quicker)
i will not buy Goodyear after hearing about the rv tire scandal (despite actually having a good tire)
https://www.google.nl/amp/s/jalopnik...1824997252/amp
again tirerack has great reviews for most tires; and any installer can install a bigger aspect ratio tire as long as it doesn’t cause clearance issues.
Owners who have switched to 275/55/20 have loved it from what I read it in the forums.

My tires are Pirelli Scorpion verde all season run flats. Are you saying there is a difference between this and Scorpion Verde PLUS? I can't find the PLUS. Tirerack has three different SCorpion Verde all season with different pricing but no other info differentiating them.

This is the plus. https://m.tirerack.com/tires/tires.j...omCompare1=yes
Its also available in the 275-55-r20 size. https://m.tirerack.com/tires/tires.j...omCompare1=yes
the pirelli scorpion zero is the one people complain about.
Any reason you chose run flats? I assume you have the diesel?

my truck came with run flats - 275-50R20.
although 20" looks nice, I am not happy with the feel and the vibration. So am looking for options. but the tires are in good shape, i haven't been able to balance them nicely.

Recent purchase of 2015 CPO GL450...I put 1k on brand new set of Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus 275-50-R20 and they're not too bad. The Western Pennsylvania roads are terrible so the taller sidewall is very interesting...will definitely consider once my tires need replaced.

Everyone seems to like the ride and performance of the Pirellis. My only complaint is that the tread should not be shot at 27k miles of suburban and freeway driving. I know they are soft but still...

Besides the slight speedometer, which could be annoying and possibly deal breaker, by going from 50 to 55, any other notable pros and cons? little extra ride cushion/comfort? handling? etc?
Thanks

Per Discount Tire, these are the best deal for the GL450 with 20" wheels. More importantly, since these have XL rating vs the standard one of the factory 275/50/20, they will reduce the infamous GL450 body sway a bit and offer more traction due to the tire being slightly wider. They are so much cheaper because the factory size was made for MB only.
It does make the GL slightly taller.
Should work, but just in case, it's

I'm taking the plunge tomorrow and switching out my 275/50/20 Bridgestone Dueler MOextended (Run flat) tires tomorrow. I replaced the front two tires about 3k miles ago when I purchased the vehicle and now the rear two showing severe dry rot even with 40% tread. My 2010 GL450 has only 67000 miles and I'm the third owner so I'm uncertain how many times these tires were replaced previously.
In any case I'm switching to the 275/55/20 All Weather Nokian WR G4 SUV Tire from Nokian Tyres. I had a previous non-SUV iteration of these on my previous vehicle a Saab 9-5. They were outstanding in the snow and I drove across country twice in every possible weather condition (including near bumper deep snow on an unplowed highway in eastern Wyoming) and never felt compromised performance.
I currently live in NYC and the thought of a little extra sidewall to protect from the potholes is good. I'll report back on any ride quality issues and initial impressions on road noise. I chose these tires for the times I want to drive upstate with my family in wintertime. I don't have the option of swapping tires twice a year for summer and winter sets, so I thought this would be a good compromise.
Other than the slight speedometer error and ride height difference, if anyone thinks this is a bad idea, or thinks I should investigate a different tire, please chime in. I searched the forum and even though its implied in this thread that there are several happy owners riding 275/55/20 I couldn't really find much on this.
Thanks

You shouldn't have any issues running 275/55/20's on your truck. Just realize that they are an inch taller than the stock tires and your speedo will be reading about 2 mph low at 60 mph. So when your speedo says you are going 58, your actual speed is 60. When your speedo says 77, your actual speed would be 80.

Hello DaveW68,
Thanks for your suggestion on the Toyo Celsius CUV in 275/55/20. I hadn’t seen those, nor read any comparisons until now, and they look quite compelling. I’ll talk with the tire installer tomorrow to see if they have an opinion
Thanks for the info on the speedo change.

I want to do the same
I’m really glad to find this forum .i have a wrangler 275/55/20 I just bought and about to install. The guys at the shop kinda discouraged me and I wasn’t sure what they were saying but after going through the comments in this forum I’m convinced is ok.
anther thing I want to ask is , apart from the Speedo is there any other issue(s) that may arise as a result. Thank you

GLS 450 23 inch AMG What tires last the longest
I have a GLS 23 inch amg and at 10,000 miles going. I am looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s vs the ones on that came on car ( dealer recommended ) being the Pirelli P zero. Any feedback would be great. I do not want to change tires every 10,000 miles, but also want minimal road noise. I am in Florida. Thank you

I have a 2015 GLS 450 with 20 inch wheels. My experience was similar with the OEM tires (gone at 25k) and Michelin Premier LTX (gone in 48k). I installed Continental Crosscontcat LX 25 around 75k and they are at 9/32 all around at 112k miles. I run 34PSI all around. Maybe worth looking at
