I am getting ready to do this mod. How do you like the screen resolution compare to the factory screen since you have the newer version? Also, were you able to change to US setting, i.e. Temp and speed? Lastly, is there a GL photo when you open the door, someone mentioned only gle/ml or e class photos?
Nice find! I hate you all a little because I paid a lot more and now salt in the wound is I have an older model too.
Screen specs seem similar, but the image quality looks better than mine from the pictures.
I will probably just put the android 5 unit on eBay. Hopefully the wire harnesses are all the same and I can just take out the 2 screws holding the "old" screen in and plug in the new screen. Will post update when I get it.

what is the use of the CVBS OUT1 and CVBS OUT2?
Can you link me where you purchase yours. I tried to look in this thread but it keeps on freezing on me because of the hd photos uploaded.

No I have not tested the video out. The ebay seller I listed is knowledgeable on these units and may know if you want to email him. He responds quickly but is in China.

The 8" screen is designed to better fit our dash and look like oem and the picture should be sharper. I told him I definitely want the 8" screen which he has in hand ready to ship.
Here is a picture he sent me in a GLS which looks like oem. Good new is the wire harness and plugs are the same so I should be able to swap out my android 5.1 screen easily.
EDIT: I dont know if this is actually the 8.4" screen installed in a GLS or if its actually just a photoshop of the android 7.1 on the factory GLS screen.

I chat with the seller thru ebay he confirmed the 8” version is a lot better and faster than the 9” so ask him to refund the 9” bought then i will repurchase the same 1 so i can use the ebay 10% off he agree. Total ship i paid just now is $521 shipped for the new 1. He said he will ship the unit tomorrow.
Can somebody link me to the carplay dongle that will charge. The 1 i found in ebay has a comment that unit dont charge the phone. Thank you
You'd have to connect the rear out to the center console in the rear to make it work, but the wires would stick out so not sure if that's ideal.
I honestly don't use any of the functions of the aftermarket screen, just have it load the OEM screen. Just looks 100x better so very happy except everyone else getting it at 1/2 the price i paid=)
My take on this mod after a couple of days.
Would I do this mod if I didn't have the mod? Yes
Am I completely happy with this mod? No
Did this mod accomplish everything I was hoping for? NO!
- I'm a millennial, I do everything on my phone. I wanted to buy this mod because I HATE the Mercedes infotainment system. I also have a Lexus IS and I much prefer the Lexus system even though it's dated as well and doesn't integrate with my phone. I didn't want apple play / android auto because I don't like that it disables use of your phone.
- I thought that this could be used in tandem with my phone for when I'm driving. You know, not safe but run maps, spotify, check some texts, emails, etc.... all at the same time, you know, like your phone... or a tablet. I like to run waze and google maps at the same time, and thought I could do 1 on the car screen and 1 on the phone.
It does not.
- The biggest problem I have with this unit is the the GPS just doesn't work very well. I tested it inside the console, didn't work. I tested it outside the console, I ran the wire around the bottom of the display and to the back, and stuck it to the back of the screen. I don't want to see any wires and this was as far as I was willing to put the GPS. I thought that this would give it a clear enough view for the GPS to be accurate but it doesn't. The GPS works, but just not well enough to function as a navigation. For this reason alone is why I'm not completely happy with the unit. I emailed the seller regarding this and he says the GPS has to be in a good location. I'm not sure what "good location" is but I feel like the GPS is just under powered. My phone can sit inside my center storage and still give me perfect GPS.
- Problem 2, unit is under powered, perhaps the 8" one is better and faster, the 9" one just feels slow. Can someone report back to how the GPS is for the 8" version? However, 1" difference is significant... The quality of the screen is very nice, very sharp. There's a preloaded video of a chinese cooking show, showing off peking duck and it looks delicious on the screen.
Sooo why would I do this again even though it didn't do what I thought it would do... aesthetics... The 9" screen looks nice, it makes my GL look like the GLS. It updates the interior, functions the same... guilty of vanity... . I pretty much just leave it on OEM screen and still use my phone. Can't see when I would ever sit in my car long enough to need to watch Netflix, not something I personally would want to do while I'm driving either... although you could...
p.s. congrats to the people who got it cheaper, I paid 800 for mine, free shipping, because I'm impatient and didn't want to wait for shipping from China.
Did anyone figured out how to adjust brightness in aftermarket screen .To me there is no effect when i change brightness
hmm, i have my brightness at 0 because it already super bright. I wish I could go below 0 sometimes. I do notice a difference if I make it brighter because my eyes start to burn.

Is this the one you got for $800? If so, the listing stated that it's actually a 8.4" screen. I guess I am a bit confused since the US seller is selling the 8.4" screen and Chinese seller is selling the 9" one and both are 2nd gen 7.1 units. I am not seeing a 8" unit for sale by the Chinese seller.
The seller from china did not know screen was slightly smaller initially and has since changed the ebay listing to also say 8.4" screen. The only difference I see between the two listings is that the US seller says 4 core CPU and the one from china says it's a 8 core cpu. An easy way to confirm the actual cpu is to "install droid hardware info" from the play store. esung81 can you do this and post a picture of your cpu specs?

and i hope the frame is a little bit smaller than the 9”. If it not it will still the same thing as the 9” with a larger bezel and block the vent

Are you not able to hide that ugly logo on the left side? Also, I noticed your screen resolution is still 1024x600, not 1024x768 as per the listing for the new gen unit.
