I'm looking forward to hearing your review of this system and seeing some Youtube videos of it in action. It would be nice if it came with the onscreen menus that come in the 2017+ GLS. It also needs an Android Auto option.
It does look interesting. The most critical factor will be the quality of the screen and how it performs in bright sunlight. So it sounds like one option is to just have the factory interface on a bigger screen, and then for $99 they give you a box that replaces the factory COMAND system? Or is COMAND still available in addition to the new options?

Apparently you didn't read the description that was posted.
I've seen other screens but they appear to be half-baked. The system can only do kilometers, Celsius, and can only display half the screen on certain menu options. This looks like a doable option, please do a video review, if you dice to move forward with the "aftermarket selection".

I'm interested in hearing about how it mounts to the dash....and if it will be as sturdy as the units in the modern Benz vehicles. I'm assuming that the original screen will stay in place.
Too many unknowns - I haven't received or installed yet.
The hope is that it's fine in direct sunlight and it mirrors exactly what the OEM screen does - with providing a bigger screen and extra menu/functions for Apple CarPlay. The hope also is that any bugs/errors can be updated via software/USB updates and the hardware can remain.
If it mirrors the OEM screen, SAT radio should work. Will my rear entertainment still work? Audio? My DVD in motion? We will see.
Hey guys love the look of this screen, but I was at the dealer yesterday looking at the new gls and noticed the lower half of the middle dash set up is identical with a different bezel. And also a cut out on the dash behind the new screen. I’ve dine a lot of conversion cars I’ve the years and I really think the stock gls screen will work in the gl450. The ac vents are in the identical spot if you measure. And from the bottom of the screen up is a separate piece. Has anyone tried this, or are the connections and features too different to make it work properly, even if it will fit correctly.

Oooooooo ... gosh, and all I want is just a bigger, brighter, faster, sharper, higher DPI screen .... hahaha ... ughhhh ... hahaha ... sighhhh ... so many variables software being the most compatibility issue ... so lets hear it from the brave few :-)
Good luck. Hope it works out because I'm definitely interested in doing the same.

Awesome,. Only for the ML?
Mercedes needs to get away from that stuck on screen on the top of the dash!

Older GL guys have cool solution too:
I didn't really care for the stuck on iPad look that has become the norm at the beginning either. But I definitely see how effective they are by being able to use a larger screen that doesn't require the driver to look lower on the center stack. These things have grown on me.

Yea, but good news is next gl will have w222 style dash where it's built in again. Lol, mercedes going back to their roots again with built in look. You don't what kind of German beer they're drinking sometimes.
Very impressed with everything. The fit and quality of the harnesses, wires, cables, bracket, etc. are all great.
Installation took me 4 hours the first time. I could do it in less then 20 minutes now that I know what to do. The biggest thing is knowing where to pull so you don't break any tabs and also to not bend the fiber optic cable.
The OEM screen is removed and a bracket is put in place to hold the new screen. It looks OEM and my MB dealership was impressed with it.
Cons:
Screen quality is not as high as the OEM screen. I believe this has to do with two factors, the scaling factor going from a 7" screen to a 9" screen and then the overall resolution is not as great.
If you wear polarized sunglasses, the screen is completely black. I had to buy a screen protector (http://www.tuffprotect.com/) just ask for a 136mm x 220mm one. I went with clear but you can get anti-glare if you prefer that. Once you put a screen protector, you can see the screen again.
Slightly goes into the vent area on the left and right, but I'm fine with this as I want the largest screen possible.
Aftermarket screen is only in km/h for speed.
Pros:
Looks OEM.
Makes the interior look much newer.
Screen is larger.
Easy installation and easily reversible.
Carplay, Google Maps, web browser are now options in the aftermarket screen.
Touchscreen for aftermarket screen.
Overall:
I don't use the aftermarket screen at all - I have it setup to mirror the OEM screen/display. So no functionality is lost and it works with rear entertainment, etc...
My goal was to have a OEM looking screen, with the look of the newer Mercedes. This product accomplished it, so very happy with it.
The seller on eBay was very helpful and responded to all my emails in how to install it so kudos to him.

how does the resolution of the front and back camera, and surround view, look like in terms of video quality and resolution? A newer/loaner GLE with the new screen and a friend's 2016 Nissan Roque have fantastic resolution for front and rear facing cameras/ The GL with the stock screen is a joke for video resolution. DOes this improve the camera resolution? Does the manufacturer provide the screen resolution (IE: 1200x900 ?)

Thanks.
No, the screen is worse than the OEM screen. That being said, I can see everything I need to in the 360 camera. I use it all the time too because I have this: https://www.midcityengineering.com/d...era-on-demand/
Screen resolution that is posted on the eBay listing is 1024x600.
