2013 AC issues

Hi guys,

ive searches with no joy so hopefully someone can help..

last week the AC stared blowing hot air 😢

after re-gassing twice the issue remained. Garage has done some trouble shooting and are confident that there is power going to the compressor it’s just not turning on. They want me to replace the compressor and all associated parts which is mega expensive..

im concerned it may be a software issue or faulty switch or something so want to try everything before I spend big bucks. vehicle has 113000km so I’m shoelaces the compressor has given up already.

any experience or advice that might help troubleshoot would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

You’ve put too much pressure in the ac system by adding too much refrigerant and the system or the ac compressor is seized.

I would say say run the ac and let out referigerant till the pressure on your gauge is in the green zone.
youll notice once you let out a lot of referigerant that that the ax compressor will start to run and the lines will get cold.

The sticker on the front of your engine bay should say how many kg of refrigerant should be in the car. You’ve probably put in way too much

Yes. Twice. 🙄

First time is when I bought my ml55 and the salesperson said the ac wasn't working well but that it had been recharged!

Turns out the clutch wasn't engaging because they had put it in way too much refrigerant. Worked perfectly after i let enough out and away went the extremely loud fan noise as well.

The second time was with the gl450, I had the ac blowing hot air one time so I refilled it ; didn't realising how little and low pressure is needed in the system. Same story.

Both times, the ac has been working like a charm since I let out refrigerant.

Well our AC had the same problem a few weeks ago. 2103 model GL550 (GL500 here) . Dealer told us compressor is dead and car was under extended warranty, so it was free.

If I were you I'd first take a look at if the compressor is running or not when AC is running. As stated earlier adjusting the coolest level is vital as compressor is likely to shut itself down with wrong pressure (not %100 sure, I know it will shut down with low pressure )
