GL63 Transfer Case Weeping Oil

Hi all

Was in getting a shock absorber leak confirmed and put through on my warranty and the tech came back to confirm an oil leak from the transfer case, could be bolts could be at the joint, he couldnt tell so has steam cleaned it and will look again when the suspension is done this coming week.

Straight away dealer says I will have to pay diagnosis even though its a fully maintained and warranted vehicle all of its life, sure its 5 years old now but still.

Anyone know if this is a know issue on the X166, looks like it is on other models, GLK for example?

I dont have any drops on my driveway (sloped) so assume its a weeping rather than pouring out but its due its 70k transmission fluid change in a few k miles so may get this sorted at the same time, do I much to go at in terms of warranty covering, is a weep a problem on this engine and transmission combo?

Thanks

Carl

Ok, be prepared because a transfer case is really expensive.

I had to change one on my Daugther´s ML350. Do not let the transfer case to lose all its fluid. DO NOT OVERTORQUE the transfer case screws. That been

Good luck

Had it checked today and the dealer thinks its coming from the second joint back, the first being an obvious joint that has a visible black sealant type joint. Not sure what all of that means to be honest?

Theyve taken a load of photographs and say theyre going to push for warranty claim, Im not too hopeful but will wait and see?

I have a 2014 GL450 that had a leak in the transfer case, most likely caused by the 2 broken engine mounts I had. All fixed under warranty (I bought the car CPO and have a warranty until 9/2020.

Dealer is telling me the leak is between the transfer box and the transmission so they want to remove the transfer box to see whats causing the leak, then they can advise repair cost.

Its the equivalent of $500 to remove and reinstall and the warranty rejected the claim so its minimum $500 plus whatever they find once apart plus fluid to refill etc. I thought it would be the seal but they want to keep their opinions open at this point which makes me nervous.
