2013 GL 550 4MATIC - Good Buy?

Im looking to buy one of these cpo @ 48k miles. Carfax looks clean.

Is there anything I need to lookout for before pulling the trigger? Any tips/advice/recommendations are very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Anything CPO should be a good buy, warranty coverage is your best friend and you want to get extended warranty afterwards.

Tell us more about the GL - What kind of options does it have? For example - The Active curve system option could be a pesky issue (for some).

The 550 loves to eat tires, be sure to road force balance and rotated the tires to make them last. Also, the 21 inch rims could be a little bumpy at certain highway speeds, this could be reduce if tires are properly maintained as indicated. Door handle mechanism and air suspension is another common\expensive problem but should be covered under warranty.

Maintenance could be expensive, if you go to the dealer. Are you handy with tools? This could save you a lot of money, if not, find a MB independent mechanic.

I don’t want to deter you from owning one but these are some of the common things, others could chime in to share their experience. However, the overall ownership experience has been awesome, the SUV has a smooth ride quality and a can be a beast when needed (which is surprising for a 5 thousand pound SUV).

Early models had clank noise at first/cold start from timing chain. Is resolved by TSB to install check valve to keep oil pressure up. So that the thing I would suggest to check.

If it has Active Curve option there is a recall for a new cap to avoid a fire risk. Our car is still in shop from an April accident so I’m not sure if the part is readily available.

These cars are great and haven’t had major service issues with ours, just major issues from accident. Can look over my “Panda Build” thread for some upgrades and other info I have put in there.

I would second NaviTimer. I bought a used 2014 GL550 that didn't have CPO and I will have to replace rear shocks and repair a door handle actuator. Already have an appointment to road force balance all the wheels as I get vibration between 70-85 mph. That's just the beginning. I'm sure I'll find more things.
If I didn't get such a great deal I might reconsider, but I really do love the truck. It's comfortable and has great road presence. I haven't gone through a winter with it yet but I hear a set of winter tires is key.
Good luck with your purchase decision!
