Talk me off a ledge
I have a 2014 GL 450 with 50k miles. It has had an intermittent check engine light that always comes back turbo underboost. After repeated visits to the dealer with no diagnosis they kept it. Told me it could be a long process of troubleshooting. A week later I called for an update and was told it’s a big deal, smoke test, up to pulling engine. Then several days later, yep MB is going to replace the turbo boosters. I might mention I have the CPO warranty and that in the face of all the lights the car drove fine. Pics below indicate its current state. And now I’m panicked that it can’t possibly be the same after such extensive disassembly. What would you do? Do I trust that they know what they’re doing? This seems to have escalated quickly. Sell it ASAP? Drive it for a bit and see how it does? I’m feeling a little sick and maybe I’m over reacting. Be mistrustful that a big job was under taken because the customer isn’t paying???

It's will be equal or better than before. Anything they pull apart will get cleaned and All new New seals/gaskets. And if you get a new turbo, even better, they start to go under 100k anyway. I had an old e320 motor rebuilt under warranty at 45k Miles. Sold the car at 280,000 still running like a new car. I wouldn't worry, if mb is paying out under warranty they won't skimp at all.

I would not worry, MB warranty is very good. Do keep track of the time the GL has been in the shop for the issue, if it continues in the future, you can use the lemon law that's available in your state (it should cover CPO).

The way your car is engineered - in a good way - yes, for major engine work the engine/tranny is dropped as a unit.
It is disconcerting to see your Mercedes this way - but your Mercedes has gone thru earnest diagnostic managed between dealer and MB to get to this point - and the entire objective is to get your Mercedes fixed "right"..
