GL450 transfer case

I bought a GL450 CPO at 55k miles. It is now at 90k and I noticed a grinding noise. I took to MB service and they are telling me that it is the transfer case that needs to be replaced and will cost me $6k to replace. There is no OEM that it can be replaced with. They said parts are made by man and sometimes these things happen since man is not perfect. So now I'm being told I got a bad part but I will still be expected to pay close to $6k for their mistake. I called MB customer service and the rep said he would look into it. I have called him every day for 3 weeks and he will he not take or return my call. The tech called me and said MB will cover $900 of the repair but I still find this to be unacceptable. When asked if there was someone else I could escalate this issue too I was told that there was not. I have a close friend who is an executive with MB in Atlanta but I did not want to involve him for something that I feel is a clear and easy issue to resolve. If MB would cover the part I would be fine to pay labor. At this point if they can not do what's right I have 6 certified letters ready to go out to execs throughout MB. I hate to blow up someone's job but at this point I feel totally disrespected and that I am not being treated with the service you would expect from a luxury car maker. Any other thoughts on course of action?

What year is your GL? Don't waste your time with the letters. MB is a business and the car is, assuming, out of warranty. They are done. I'm surprised they are covering $900. Get your friend involved to see if he can help but writing the letters will probably worsen the issue and they may pull any help offered.

It's a 2014...it was purchased at just under 60k miles and all this is happening at 90k.

Yeah, see if your friend can help. Otherwise, they will tell you to buzz off. Even with your friend, they still may tell you the same. MB is not as customer centric as other manufacturers. It's purely business to them. They make nice cars but are not as dependable as other manufacturers so you need a warranty to make sure you are covered. Did you get the 2 year CPO extension or just the 1 year?

The CPO expired may of 18. Regardless we have put less the 35k on the vehicle. This is known issue by MB and the tech who inspected said that the part was bad from MB and had nothing to do with us.

The warranty ends at a certain point for a reason. Nothing is guaranteed beyond that. It's a mechanical part. It can wear out and it can break. You can next expect anything on a vehicle to last forever.

@kenjraustin Just out of curiosity, how careful were you with the diesel fuel you burned and did you run cleaner every so often?
