Self Nav Update on 2014 GL (USA)
FWIW, I looked at the last MBUSA offer for a $99 update, but my dealer also wanted $200 in labor so I declined.
However, I just updated my factory NAV database on our GL350 from 2014 to 2019 for $130. I figured an updated database every five years can't hurt, right? The updated database is seven versions newer---I'm not sure how that works considering it's only been five years. Whatever.
https://mbnavupdate.com
I'm also in the USA, I don't know if they supply updates for other regions.
Easy peasy.
1) Download the NAV file from the supplied link (about 20GB)
2) Unzip it to a 32GB USB stick
3) Plug the stick into the USB port in the center console
4) Command will recognize the USB stick as an update and you need to enter the supplied code (the code is VIN specific, so it will only work on one vehicle)
5) The update will start and take a little over an hour and the truck needs to be running the entire time. It is drivable, however, and the radio worked during the update.
6) When the update is complete, remove the USB stick. All done.

I saw that page and considered purchasing it for my 14 CLS63 update but wasn’t sure if that site was reliable or worth it. Showing $180 for mine and the dealer wants $280 for the update. So if it works from that site, Ill do that. Thoughts?

what are the benefits of a newer map? Will it show newer roads, newer gas stations, hospitals, etc? or will it load faster or find a route faster? The one thing I hate about this navigation is that it does not tell me how my miles i have till my next exit. it lists all the upcoming exists, but does not tell me what my next exit is and how many miles i have to go until them. For example, if I'm on route 280, and I need to take exit 10, it does not state how many miles i have till exit 10 and that is the next exit i need to take. it does not state for how long i will continue on the existing road. perhaps I'm missing something on how to use this but can't find any options.

If I need directions to get me somewhere in the shortest amount of time accounting for traffic, construction, etc, I just use the Waze app on my phone. The maps are better, current up to the moment, and it will always get you there the fastest. It will also automatically re-route you around accidents, traffic jams, point out current speed traps, etc. Also super easy to enter a destination as opposed to the clumsy Benz nav system.

for what its worth ... like most update of this nature, this should be user doable for free courtesy of MB ... already paid for the nav system ... MB should consider it an on-going cost and work with nav provider to provide to updates ...

Anyone have an older V4 maps disc I could borrow/buy. Need one for my 2013. Crazy they are up to V19 for maps.

While my 2014 GL350 is in the shop for new NOX sensor(s), I asked to have the Nav maps updated. They quoted me $289 for a 2017 edition disc, or for a download of the 2019 edition for $489. I went on to the MBNavupdate and for $150 I get v20, which says is 2020, but probably 2019 in actuality. Based on this post, I just ordered it today, so I will see how it goes.
