Speedometer oddity GL550

Just noticed today that up until 80 MPH, the speedometer has a notch that indicates 5 MPH increments. For example, it shows 10 MPH, and the next line is assumed 15 MPH and then the next line shows 20 MPH, etc.. After 80 MPH, each subsequent line appears to represent 10 MPH increments. There is no 90 MPH and the next line shows 100 MPH.

On a road trip today I assumed we hit 88 MPH (to go back into the future and all) but later realized we were likely going closer to 100 MPH. Am I reading this correctly?

Yes, that is correct. The 5mph increments go away after 80 mph. You can always scroll through your gauge cluster screen settings to show actual digital MPH if the analog gauge gets too confusing for you at higher speeds.

LOL My wife only looks at it when she feels that were going fast. In the GL, she can't tell, the ride is so smooth there is no perception of speed, only when you look down.

Side note:
The family and I were once in Alligator Alley in the early morning (a highway that runs east and west in South Florida). There were hardly any cars on the road and I passed a car like it was standing still, I looked at the digital dash and we were going 115 KPH.

The wife and I were shocked by how calm and composed the Gl felt at those speeds, the engine felt effortless too. We obviously had to slow down and it felt like I was going thru a school zone.
