Headlight bulb upgrade HID

Hey folks
has anyone replaced the factory hid d1s bulb to get better light output? The stock hid are yellow and very dull. I researched and can get osram cbb or philips white. Not sure if others have done this. Btw this is for a 2015 GL550 with intelligent hid system.

Yes, you can upgrade to higher end D1S bulb. Simple swap. The two you mentioned are the best (assuming you meant 85415 XV2 XTREME Vision when you say Philips). Personal favorite are the CBB... Only very slightly less lux compared to the Philips, but more aesthetically pleasing with better white output. We carry both so can assist

Any photos of comparison?

Basically only a 20 lux difference which is more academic than what you'd really be able to detect in the real world. CBB will be very slightly whiter... more of a crisp pure white compared to the flat white of the Philips.

We have these for coming up on a year. Brighter than stock but not sure better than the CBI really. In my build thread “Panda Build” I was gonna get lots of pics to compare them side my side vs stock but after the accident and getting it back with the new bulbs already in I never cared too. I gave away my CBI so i couldn’t compare the stock vs CBI VS CBB. In the end I like them but maybe save and get the CBI as they preform just a good and the color isn’t dramatic between them.

I have a 2015 C350 and I want to replace the bulbs to a higher end bulb (basically want the more whiter light) it doesn’t look like I can change the bulb bc the screws are on the inside of the headlight housing. It appears I’d have to take the headlight apart to do so. Trying to avoid this. I don’t have the two little metal clips holding it in.

looking a the crap pic I assume that’s the igniter that connects to the bulb. There should be a few wires connected to it that will disconnect when you twist off the igniter from the bulb.

then swap in the new bulb
connect wires to igniter
connect ignite to bulb

best bulbs to get what you need are the Osram Cool Blue Boost aka Osram CBB. I use them in my E55/GLS63 and old Rover. Cheapest place to get them is Amazon for about $120 a pair. You need D1S from the looks of the pic. Now the lens and bowl of the projector can play a part too.

The bulbs on the GLS are much improved but they don’t rival the all new headlights and Morimoto EVO projectors is swapped on my E55. Or the Rover that simply got a new lens and spacers. Doing that all involves opening the headlight and you likely don’t want that.

However a few pics but none of the GLS63 but I can get some tomorrow but they won’t compare stock vs CBB.

Rover with CBB and clear lens with spacer vs stock.

New E55 stock vs old E55 stock

E55 CBB and EVOs vs new stock

High beam E55 CBB and EVOs vs stock

E55 CBB and EVOs vs stock With CBB

High beam E55 CBB and EVOs vs new stock with CBB

One is G63 LED vs E55 with EVOs and CBB Can’t tell a diff now at all. G63 left and E55 right
