Looking for feedback on an OE tune

I haven't seen many posts, especially not recently. Are there many on here that have an OE tune and do you have any feedback, good or bad? Long term issues, etc....please post or PM me your thoughts. I'll be waiting for another sale but just want to make sure I'm not overlooking any issues before going forward. My 550 is stock and this is the only mod I've been planning on, looks like a simple process now with the handheld tuner.

Thanks for any feedback!

Anyone have any tune on theirs?

Looks like options are OE, Eurocharged, Renntech and Wiestec.

I actually had my 2013 GL550 tuned by O&E over a year ago now. Runs fantastic and makes lots of beautiful power. No issues that I know of as of today and about 10K miles driven.
I also had my 2007 S65 tuned by Eurocharged years ago and that car also makes lots of power. Way more than the GL but it is a different beast all together.

I've had the OE tune for over a year. No issues to report. I like the responsive Throttle and higher HP.

Mine has improved 1-2 MPG with the tune. It runs more efficiently.

Good to hear.... Thank you for your replies. I'll hope for an end of year sale and see if I can convince the wife that it's just what I need.

2016 Mercedes Benz GL550
OE Tuning and their excellent and speedy Customer Support!👍👍

I purchased the OE tune for my 2016 GL550 a few weeks ago, and when I received the MyGenius handheld tuner and download the ID and the stock tune from my ECU and emailed it to OE Tuning, they sent me the modified tune maps within a few hours, on the same day.(This is the same great speedy customer service experience I had when I flashed the ECU of my BMW K1600B motorcycle with the MyGenius handheld last year.)

And every time I had a question or concern about tuning my car, Jerry and Jeremy always responded to my calls or emails in a speedy manner and answered all my questions and or offered a solution.

And although I just flashed my ECU this week and can’t speak on long term stability and experience of OE Tuning’s tune, I can tell you from owning 7 AMG Mercedes over the last 40 years, and just from seat of pants feel that my GL550 performs almost like the GL63 AMG when I push it, and yet it’s still very civilized and smooth and drivable as a daily Driver, and I no longer have to worry about the high cost of maintaining an AMG car after the warranty expires.

I highly recommend OE Tuning to everyone who is thinking about tuning their car for better performance, and I even referred OE Tuning to my Brother-In-Law who is in the process of purchasing a GLS550. And I will also be referring them to many of my Friends and Family Member, and I will be going back to them to purchase tunes for all my future cars.

I have had my stage 1 oe tune for just under a year. No issues that i know of right now. Was super happy with the difference. Wouldnt have thought twice about the tune until I went to the track. So I took the 450 to the 1/8 mile track for the first time about 4 weeks ago and best time was of that night was a 9.3. Went again a week later best time was a 9.00 flat. Seen online somewhere that someone in a bone stock 13 gl550 went a 9.1. I found that to be odd since my 450 is stage one tuned i should be somewhat faster. I emailed OE to see what kind a boost numbers I should be seeing. Hey replied with about 18.Ordered a ob2 scanner and torque pro app to see what numbers I am getting. Torque pro app says i am maxing at about 12psi and the max boost between pulls is very inconsistent. Intake air temps are usually between 80 and 115*F. Boost numbers are all over the place. Decide to tap into my intake manifold to hard line a boost gauge to verify the torque pro app. It was spot on accurate. Once I verified the boost numbers not being close to 18psi and usually between 8 and 12 psi, thought it was time to start data logging and sending OE tuning some files. They are working with me via email. Process is obviously not as quick as I would like but they are working on it.

Please keep me posted on this. I have the OE tune also and my truck is nowhere near as quick as another member on this board who had the Eurocharged one. If they can get yours dialed in, then I'd definitely be interested in getting an update from OE.

Will update you as soon as i hear from them. I have a friend who has an e550 with stage 1 tune. He is constantly seeing 11 to 13 psi at iat temps of 135*f with peaks of 17psi on a logic lab tune.Like i said i rarely see 12 psi with iat temps of 80*F. I mostly see boost between 8 and 10.

OE sent me an updated tune yesterday and was able to reflash this morning. Didnt noticed much of a difference. Data logs show approximately the same data as previous tune. I will take to track next wednesday to see times. I asked a few questions to OE to see what were the specs as to how they were able to get 18psi max on their dyno runs. Id like to replicate that as much as possible.

Jkucz86, regarding the Torque Pro app, does it give you transmission temp reading? I have the regular version, but consider getting the Pro version if it has more readings, especially transmission temp, so I can use it to change the fluid myself.
This is exactly the reason why I am still hesitant and haven't pulled the trigger on getting the My Genius OE tune, even though it's currently on sale for Independence Day. I've added it to the cart a few times, then back out and jump over to Renntech's site wondering if I should just get that instead.
I PMd OE a few days ago asking about HP/torque numbers and if they updated the tune, since Renntech updated theirs during their release of the OBD2 capable tune recently. OE Tune did respond quickly stating they have always updated the tune for M278 since first release. But, experiences like what's posted here is why I'm hesitant with OE Tune.
Looking forward to updates on you guy's experiences...

I do have the torque pro app. Paid version. OE is definetly working with me to figure out the issue.

Sorry to throw this thread off topic a bit with my inquiry about the Torque Pro app. I used the free Torque app in the past, and know the Pro is an upgraded oaid version. I was asking you, since you're using it on the GL, if it is able to show transmission temperature? The free version did not show trans temp, and I will get the Pro version if it's able to tell me that, so I can do transmission fluid changes myself.
Looking forward to seeing how your OE experience turn out..

Did OE ever get the boost issue figured out? Are you satisfied?

I am still not seeing 18psi. Maybe 13psi max. I am still on the fence with the tune. I am unsure if its my GL issue as to why I'm not seeing 18 psi or is it the tune. Im not ready to spend 1500$ on a eurocharged tune to find out.

understand completely. I’ve been on the fence regarding the OE tune for my car. This has me on hold longer. Good luck and let us know how it plays out.
