G55 owner "needs" more space... (GL63?)

Just recently picked up my 2005 G55 and we may need a vehicle with more space in the garage. Wife drives a 2013 GX460 that we bought new and we dont want to give it up as its boringly reliable (knock on wood) so the G may be up for sale/trade .

How does the GL63/550 hold up? Has anyone made the switch? Im sure the ride will be more compliant and fuel economy would actually be an improvement (LOL) but I like how raw the ride is in the G55 and how simple the over all driving experience is.

Mostly worried about reliability and depreciation. I bought the G with the intent of keeping it for two years or so and then selling it with the hopes of not loosing too much of my initial purchase price. I'm hoping/assuming that the AMG variant of the GL would hold up better?

63 vs 550 to me just pocket the savings. 550 stock is pretty quick tune it and it’s faster than the 63. That’s what we did. Have thread “panda build” so can see some info on our 550.

we had a 2018 G550 for a number of months while car was in shop in 2018. Love the G but yeah low on space. Good thought to enjoy it and sell and not lose much on it. Going used 550/63 you will still not lose too much since most the hits has been taken. We still plan to get a G55 as I love the 55k motor. Miss my E55.

Oh the biggest diff from a 550/63 outside motor and brakes is the 63 has Active Curve standard. It’s transforms the car. Keeping it pretty flat in curves and makes it less floaty. Finding a 550 with us can be very tough. It took us 5mths to locate ours in the combo we wanted. Would find super loaded 550 to find out the option wasn’t selected. It was a $3500 or so option.

the option code is 468 and you can check VINs using datamb.com

good luck.

Get the 63 and add a tune. Faster than 550 and with active curve it handles great too.

$15k price diff to me is not worth it which is again why we got a 550 with Active Curve. Added a tune and catless downpipes.

Was worth it to me but both cars are great.
