Gl550 rear screens

Gl550 rear screens
Starting to toy with the idea of a 550. I noticed that some have the rear screens in the back of the headrests. I was wondering if I could just take those off? Or would their be a whole left where the screen once was?

I am interested in this as well but gave up as the threads I could find suggest removal will leave a whole in the seat back. The screens are useless in this post-DVD day of age, and are an annoying source of rattles.

Exactly what I'm trying to figure out. I feel the screens make it look super old.
