Keyless Go
Keyless Go
I thought I would take a look at using the keyless go on my GL350 (2018). On looking at the spec sheet I discovered I only have the Keyless Start and not the Keyless Entry part on the door.
I cannot for the life of me understand why I anyone would just want to use only just the engine start button.
Given that keys in your pocket whilst driving are uncomfortable and if they aren't in the ignition then you'll have to find somewhere in the car to put them whilst driving and retrieve them when you exit. The most logical place would be in the ignition.
Am I missing something?

I think I'll do this...
Carry my keys...
Get them out then I want to unlock and press the fob.
I've found a great place to keep them in the car....The Ignition !!
Take them out when stopped
Get out of car
Use fob to lock
Actually now I think about it that's what I have been doing for about the last 20 years

For the life of me I cant see the purpose of the button

You're missing out on not having real keyless go. I use mine all the time, I never use the buttons on the fob.
Just having keyless start is probably a cheap way to keep up with other luxury cars or regular cars that have it.
The advantage of the button is that it cranks the car the right amount to start it all the time. You just give it a tap and it starts. And in those rare cases when you turn the key when the car is already running, all it does if you have the button is shut the car off.
Basically it saves you about 5 seconds every time. No fumbling for your keys when you want to open the doors and you just press the button to start the car. No need to stick it in the ignition and turn it.

What year is your GLE43? I believe after a certain year, maybe 2018, the keyless go keys go to sleep if they don't detect any activity for 5 minutes. I believe you can also double click lock button and that's supposed to put it to sleep. Check your manual to see if it has those features.

I'd like to disable it all the time as washing the car just keeps locking and unlocking the car and is a real pain. I really wanted keyless entry / go but now I hate it. I now have to keep the keys in my pocket which is uncomfortable. There must be a fuse I can pull?
Much prefer the old use the fob to lock and unlock and key in the ignition.

You can basically get in the car, start it up and go with keyless go over the old method where you have to dig the fob out and press the button.
Yes that makes perfect sense. I'm always a bit wary of leaving the keys in the car but where I am that would work well. There still should be a way of switching it all off though IMHO
