CV Boots

I replaced my front pads and rotors today, simple job, saved $1200 over the dealer. The worst thing is the rust on the rotors keeping the rotor stuck to the axle. This is actually the 2nd time doing pads, the first time was a pain until I found the service mode on the computer.
It only takes about 3 hours, including running around finding tools to fix it as I went. The second side only took 40 minutes. Figuring out the springs and the wear sensor was counter intuitive to me, so took longer than it should.

Anyway, I noticed the one CV boot had a fair bit of grease on one side. Im sure I could use a new boot. Has anyone done this repair? The boot appears to be a $20 item, I am wondering how difficult it is to get the hub off the axle, once you get the sacrificial nut off. It looks like just a couple suspension components and it should just come off. Found this, https://www.youcanic.com/guide/merce...le-replacement

Thanks in advance

Axle nut is a 4 step tightening process with torque of at least 250Nm, so you need an appropriate torque wrench.

thanks, this is very helpful. It looks like it makes sense to just replace the entire driveshaft over trying to get the new boot over the joint? $180 v $40 but less headache and it fixes both boots.

is that manual available online or otherwise to obtain? Super useful. I actually need to do the front.

thanks again.

Agree it’s more value in my opinion to replace the half shaft. Replacing boots on things like ball joints and CV joints in my view is doing 90% of the work and getting 10% of the benefit.

Search this site and for WIS/EPC and look on eBay. You will find it.
