Rear Shock Alternatives - Miessler Automotive
I just replaced my rear shocks on my 2013 GL550 w ADS and was wanting to avoid having to pay the $600 OEM price tag per shock. I was hoping to use Arnott remanufactured shocks but could not find them in stock anywhere. Looked at the cheap ones on EBAY but reviews are terrible and didn’t want to waste money on them. I came across a company called Miessler Automotive in Germany. I looked for reviews on them online but couldn’t find too much but what I did find was positive. They manufacture their own shocks that seem to be exactly the same design as OEM. I decided to take a chance and ordered them. $203 per shock delivered to me seemed like a deal that hopefully wasn’t too good to be true. I received them in 3 days from Germany and they seem to be excellent quality. Look exactly like the original OEM shocks. Installed them yesterday and initial impressions are very good. Restored the ride of the truck back original, much improved. Best part of it is Arnott is buying the used units back for Cores for $50 each. I will report back in a couple thousand miles but I am thinking these may turn out to be as good as OEM for considerably less money. I thought I would share as I am sure many on here are getting to the mileage where the rear shocks will need to be replaced soon.

I know it's only been a couple of months, but are you still satisfied with these aftermarket shocks?
I followed the same path as you and found this German manufacture wondering if their product is as good as OEM, which lead me to your post.
Thanks

Just put in one of these shocks yesterday in the rear of my 2013 GL550 and so far I am very impressed. I paid $240 shipped right before Christmas from Germany and it only took a few days.
Everything looked just the same and slide into place with zero issues what so ever. The biggest problem I had was getting the old electrical connection to release! Not going to lie that was a pain in the ***!
Now my GL drives like a brand new car. I also only did one shock and it failed at less than 50k miles which is not cool. Also like Jim Ma said Arnott is willing to buy the core for $50.
Thanks for the advice Jim Ma you saved me about $1300 over what the dealer wanted!!!

Glad to hear that they worked out well for you. Funny how these can make it from Germany in a few days, yet I am still waiting on Christmas present s to be delived that were ordered right after Thanksgiving.

Thanks Jim. My ML has the option to raise the body by a substantial amount but automatically comes back down when you exceed 60km/h. Does your GL have the same? Hoping the Miessler shocks will not impact this functionality.

Yes, my GL has the Off Road Option so it can raise to 3 different heights. Works perfectly fine with the Miessler Rear shocks. The ride height is adjusted by the air springs so really doesnt have anything to do with the shocks other than extending them a bit more when raised.

Hello all!
Like many of us (mean MB drivers) I have the same issue with rear shock absorbers. Want to replace it with another ones with full ADS functionality and reasonable price.
I turn look to Meissler-Automotive too, but not so much feedbacks found.
Original post dated more than three yars ago. It is interesting how they feels now? Does ADS work and really regulates stiffness ? Or ADS barrel installed on Meissler absorbers - it is placebo like has many more non branded shoks from East and only Bilstein = OEM.
