2016 GL450 Stalling at a Stop
Anyone had an issue with their X166 stalling at a red light? Mine started doing this about once a week for a month or so, but it’s now more like once a month. Will be sitting at a red light and engine is off due to ECO start/stop. Out of nowhere, the dash lights up as if you tried push button start without your foot on the brake (same as ACC on position in ignition). Every warning light comes on, but the engine will not start up if I take my foot off the brake. I have to push the start button to turn off the car, then push it again to start it back up. I don’t have any other observed electronic gremlins with the car - just this occasional issue.

I've got 83,000 miles on my 2016 and have not experienced this. It usually isn't driven without have the eco button turned off so maybe that is why. Have you tried driving with eco off to see if it still does it?

Have never had an issue where I found a loose gas cap when refueling, so I doubt that was the issue. Out of curiosity, I just confirmed my car will start with the gas cap off, so it seems even less likely this is the issue. Creative thinking though, thank you!
Unfortunately, it happens too infrequently to hit the eco button every time to see if that solves the problem. I suspect it would, but I feel like that may be treating the symptom, not addressing the cause? If I could isolate when it's happening, would absolutely try this

I had constant rough idle on my 15 GL550 until I realised I had oil creeping into the engine wiring harness at the camshaft sensors. The RPMs would dip low when I came to a stop, but it never shut off (but my model did not have the auto start/stop). Just one think to check along with what others have mentioned in the link and the link vivaitalia listed.

Same issue
Hi there,
My mom’s 2021 GLS 450 is having this same exact issue you described. She has taken it to MB multiple times and they claim there is no issue because there is no notice on the car message system. I was in the car with her during 1 of the 3 times it happened. MB doesn’t believe there is a problem. Did you end up figuring out the issue with MB? It is very dangerous and scary when it happens at busy intersections.
Though out these stalling occurrences she had the 48V battery replaced. The engine light came on and the car went into limp mode and said to immediately shut the engine. The car was towed.

I would say check the auxiliary battery, but it shouldn’t go into Eco mode at all if that is low or faulty.
Maybe a bad ground, loose negative battery terminal connection to the chassis.
I usually turn off Eco mode when I start the car. The extra MPG is astronomically small, and it will cause your starter (brushes) to wear out prematurely. Replacing the starter or rebuilding it is not fun or is quite expensive if paying someone because it’s a pain to get to to get it out (unlike the X164 where it could be removed fairly easily, not following the TIS procedure).

Hey mines has been doing this as well I noticed as long as I drive without eco mode on I have no problem. I know that's not the fix to the problem did you ever find out the root cause?
