GL Class (X166) 2013-2015 after facelift became GLS (X166)

I'm looking on Autotrader and I need some input on whether this is normal or not?

GL550 on Autotrader

I'm seriously looking at this and I noticed that the front brakes are Grey MB branded, while the rear appear to be red brembos.
Is this normal in anyway? Some kind of AMG package? I seriously doubt MB would ever put out mismatched brakes, but I thought I'd ask

If i had to guess, it was something the previous owner did, along with the carbon fiber look wheel center caps. Looks to be a partially completed project of painting the calipers and adding brembo decals.

Not normal. Both front and rear calipers should have the black cover plates with "Mercedes-Benz" on them. Even on GL63 the red brake calipers don't say Brembo - they have AMG logo on them.

Seen some 2014, AMG spec, bit higher mileage, at lower price. FYI, 75k and below is a caution point for M278. Closer to 100k, passes the point of common failures/already addressed...Cylinder head, check valve...not facts, just from observations....

Agreed. MB put no thought into making the rear calipers on the non AMG versions aesthetically pleasing in the least. Even the rear caliper on my AMG is still nothing to look at.

From my understanding on the GL the rears are the same for AMG and non-AMG, only the fronts are diff.

Yeah as stated this one is a hard pass. Also if you are wanting AMG style and similar performance the you need to find a 550 with option code 468. That is Active Curve and it’s standard on the AMGs. It was a $3500 option on all trim levels. It keeps the car flat in turns and it’s truly worth hunting down a 550 with it.

you can check VINs here and get the data card showing all options:

You are right. I did the brake pads on my GLE and they are the same caliper, same pads, but different cover and finish.

I have a palladium silver 2015 GL550 with light grey interior with every option except Designo Interior nor heated steering wheel with 70k miles (including the B&O sound system). Still under CPO until end of next month. It is in excellent condition. It's had the engine wiring harness, camshaft sensors, rear main seal, and motor mounts replaced under warranty. It only has about 1k miles on a new set of tires and recent new front brakes. It does have the ACS which makes all the difference in the world. The only thing wrong with it is the driver side headrest monitor does not work.

Carmax offered me $34,800, but I'm on the fence about keeping it.

I'm stationed overseas so don't have any current photos, but could have a family member take some if interested. Extended warranties go from $3,600 to $4,500 for an extra 36-48 months. The only thing that could be a big repair ticket is the airmatic suspension. The previous owners had it regularly serviced at MB of Pompano Beach.
