Sitting low in the rear

Looking for help. ‘13 GL450. Do quite a bit of short distance boat towing. Now when I hook up the boat the rear suspension drops and doesn’t level out. Changed out the Airmatic compressor and things improved but quickly returned and now it drops with barely any load at all. Changed out both rear air bags and one rear shock absorber. No change. Took off both links for rear height sensors, cleaned and greased. After I was done it had a normal ride night but a couple miles later I get the “malfunction” again and the back is sitting an inch lower than the front. Can’t find any leaks with soap test. Replaced valve block. No change. Suggestions? Next guess is to replace the rear height sensors? Oh and the pump keeps coming on at start up and then intermittently. Level left to right. Rear is nearly 2” low.

How about you will find some one with Xentry and diagnose things proper way before spending money for nothing?

I am having very similar issues. When towing or with weight I sometimes get the airmatic malfunction error and the rear drops. Within 1 or 2 trips later things return to normal. I do have a Xentry system (I haven't had to use it in years) so I'll see if I can perform some tests and will report any findings (please report as well if you find out more on your end). It may be a day or two before I can get the tests completed, but I'll report when I do.

Thanks! I sure will. It will be a couple days for me as well before I get back home and can get it scanned.

So I was able to successfully run Xentry and found several error codes stored. Running some of the tests I received a failure indicating "gross leak in the air pressure system" located between the compressor and AIRMATIC valve unit. Further tests narrow it down to the compressor, control valve, or line between the two (separate pressure relief valve test showed that was acting normally, the vehicle did not rise during the test ruling out the level control valves, the compressor turned on so the relay should be OK, and pressure is made so the air intake should be fine). While observing the test, the pressure built quickly to 60-70 psi, but could get no higher.

As this issue seems somewhat intermittent I am leaning towards suspecting the valve unit. I know those seals inside the valve can fail to seat sometimes, and since they move I know the seats can sometimes seal, sometimes not. I would suspect a leak in the system somewhere else would suggest a non-moving part?

Some of the error message screenshots are attached. I would appreciate any feedback on how to test these components or previous experience.

So today I replaced the compressor and the valve block. The new compressor (a cheap Chinese model) is much louder than the factory unit.

When I loaded Xentry and performed the air test between the compressor and the valve I no longer get an air leak error.

I do; however, notice the compressor runs about 20% of the time now whenever I drive (thanks to the new LOUD compressor I can hear it now when driving).

I suspect I must also have a leak in one (or more) of the air shocks. It must also only present when underway as leaving it overnight (even on raised height) does not result in any squatting or perceived loss of air).

I am thinking about pulling the relay and going for a drive to see if one of the shocks looses height (without the relay I am thinking the pump won't kick in to fill it back up).

If anyone identifies any fault in my troubleshooting process I am open to corrections/suggestions. Otherwise I will proceed and post my results.

I did also clear my Airmatic stored faults via Xentry and will check again to see if any new faults return.

If you don’t mind me asking how did you go about logging your vehicle onto sentry did you purchase the software?

Yes, I have a C6 and Xentry software. Not a cheap investment, but I have owned many Mercedes and prefer to do my own work so it was worth it.

You can get Xentry Passthrough with 3rd party cable not Mercedes Hardware...

Arsupisemnet, can you recommend a reputable supplier of the passthrough software? I have tried two less than $30 Xentry passthrough downloads from eBay—neither would install. First download was missing some key components—supplier went dark and eBay add closed when I questioned. Second supplier download appeared to be complete but would not install. Supplier tried unsuccessfully to help via remote access—will not do that again as I wound up with serious virus.

Check this guy out https://autosoft.group/. He did a nice job for my friend Freightliner software. Now main issue you experience could be you cable, you have to have original not chinese knockoffs. I use MongoosePro
