You have a leaking strut/s and or you have a bad compressor.

My local Indie shop revealed a defective Airmatic Valve Unit, so remove and replace the Active Suspension System Control Module. No other leaks and compressor OK. Almost 90,000 mi now.
My GL has been a great car, on third set of tires and second set of front brakes….

Got this message. Thought it was super weird since it's an electric vehicle (thought it referred to engine coolant).
Had a 580 with a shattered sunroof. Now a 450 4-Matic named Gigi for Glittering Gold.
Taking it to dealer tomorrow to check it out.

i have the same malfunction error.
periodically, both of my rear suspensions sag. anyone seen both rear bags sag at the same time? if so, what was the culprit? i would park my car and overnight, the bags would be fine at the start. some days it is fine. some days i get the 'malfunction' message and 10 min later both of my bags sag and the car becomes super bouncy over the bumps. then it goes away for a day or so and the sagging comes back again.

i have replacement bags and rear sensor arms waiting to be installed. but now i am thinking it may be the compressor.
both of my rear bags were replaced at 50k or so. at 150k now so i am fine replacing the bags and arms. hoping it is not the compressor.

i just replaced both bags and the sensor arms. it turns out the bags or the arms weren't the issue. after replacing the bags, i tried to raise the car and i got the compressor cooling down message.
so i am thinking the compressor is ok but there is probably a leak. i am suspecting the air filer or the valve block. any thoughts?

Typically, you will ruin the compressor by running on leaking bags too long. Sounds like you did just that and need to replace the compressor. On the other hand, it could be an outlier so take to someone who can properly diagnose.

I sort of had the same problem. I replaced the rear air springs, and the compressor. Still malfunction light. Ponied up and bought a scanner. Everything pointed to valve block. Replaced the valve block and filter while I was in there and all is well. Since you already replaced air springs and compressor, I'd start with a squirt bottle of soapy water and check all your fittings and exhaust ports.

On another note, I did not pay the big bucks for OE or Arnott. I bought the less costly parts off Amazon. Not the rock bottom cheapos but much less that the big names. It's so stupid simple to change air springs, valve block, compressor, etc., I figured what the hell and rolled the dice. That was months ago and still factory perfect.

Strongly second the suggestion of spraying down the white hard polyethylene line with soapy water, and especially the brass fittings where the ferule meets the nut where line exits. Overtorqued brass fittings press and ultimately cut into the line. Has road debris puncture one line on my GL550. No codes thrown yet saggy bottom. Eventually located it b/c hate throwing parts at a problem I don’t understand. You’ll find it.

i didn't replace the compressor yet, but may need to. i just got the valve block and filter so those are the next. thought OE valve block from FCP euro was reasonably priced. surprised that is is actually made in Germany by Rapa. with 150K on the clock i think it is not a bad idea to replace all these components. after replacing the rear bags, i couldn't raise the car all the way and my compressor started cooling down so i am preparing myself to thinking that the compressor needs to be replaced soon. will report back when i am done. i am going with the valve block because both of my rear are sagging but not the front. will see.

so i got around to replace the valve block and the filter this weekend.
i am not getting the mal function error anymore but when i try to raise the car, it is giving me compressor cooling down message. as suspected, i think i cooked my compressor. just ordered a new compressor from FCP.
hope to replace it over the weekend.

couple things to note. as someone mentioned in the other thread, one screw in the back of the valve block was a pain in the a$$ to work with. another is, i didn't realize the air filter was behind the air compressor. to get to it, i had to take the compressor out. so it would make sense to replace the filter when you are doing the compressor replacement.

final report. so my problem turned out to the the valve block. if both of your rear bags are low, i would check the valve block.
after replacing the valve block, my malfunction error went away. because i sat on this for a few months, i think my compressor motor burnt out. my compressor couldn't support raising the car all the way. the car rides great now.
