Replaced 9 leaking/broken coolant components, AMA
At 10yo and ~110K miles, many of the plastic coolant components all failed nearly simultaneously. I suppose its "good" since I wouldn't like to go back in for each one multiple times, but the GL had to get a tow to come home after giving my wife a dash warning on coolant temperature.
I replaced all bad parts, including the turbo coolant lines going to the driver side. It was quite a pain, there is not much space to work on the turbo lines, and they're tough to pull out, but it can be done.
All these motors with plastic coolant lines parts will have a failure and either overheat or get towed for repair. Best to replace in advance, especially if some other related work is being done in the same area. Some may seem good but slightly touching them causes a fracture. Some fracture in such a way that the gaskets and plastic parts get stuck in the engine covers and need to be carefully pulled out. Twice I had to use a WiFi borescope with a hook on the end to retrieve chunks that fell in.
Ask questions if you have any while the work is fresh in my head.
