Oil change for 2014 GL450 V8
Hi,
I own a 2012 GL450 before owning my current 2014 GL450. With my 2012 GL450, I always used oil extractor pump to vacuum out the old engine oil. It worked pretty well. I first pump the extractor multiple times, and the oil will be vacuumed out and will extract about 6-7 quarters without any interruption. After that, I need to pump the extractor again. Repeat this for 3-4 times total, I was able to get most of the engine oil out.
Today I used the same method to do oil change on my 2014 GL450. However, it could only vacuum out a quarter or more the first time, and then I had to keep pumping. It feels like as soon as the vacuum pressure built by the pumping is gone, the oil will stop flowing out.
Does anyone use the same method on your X166 GL450/550? What is your experience?
BTW, the extractor I use is very similar to this one: https://smile.amazon.com/EWK-Pneumat.../dp/B06WD64H8Z
Thanks!

I also use an manual pump extractor to change my own oil on my 2013 GL450 with the M278 engine. I had to re-pump a few times to keep the oil flowing, too. You may have to adjust the suction tube depth a little, what I do is to slowly lift it out until I hear it sucking air, then lower it just a little more so I know it's straight down on the bottom of the pan and not curved up. If you push down too hard or too far, I think it either bends the bottom of the tube, or the bottom of the tube seals flat against the bottom of the oil pan or something. The capacity of my reservoir is too small, so I have to stop and drain twice during the process anyway, so I'm re-pumping those times as well. And the temperature of the oil matters, too. Too cold and it won't flow well. Too hot then the suction tube gets too soft and can bend/kink and reduces flow.

I use the same type of oil extractor. Always takes a few pumps here and there during the extraction process. Also depends on how hot the oil is - the hotter, the better it flows.

Drain screw on bottom of the engine if the only proper way to change oil. The rest is for lazy people. Not talking about metal shavings and other trash staying in oil pan.
