Hi All! Joined the forum to learn more about my Mercedes (GL450) and hopefully get all the little gremlins sorted. Have an electronics degree and I'm pretty versed on GM platforms and Duramax diesels. I feel a bit out of my element working on MB so far and looking to get on top of the learning curve. Germans build stuff so different than Americans! Was trying to post to Facebook groups but I feel like most of the opinions are worthless and a lot of people on have no idea how to wrench. Hopefully this form is better and full of enthusiasts.
I'll be doing some searches but...
What scan tool should I buy?
What online manuals do you recommend?
Are there any block diagrams that show an overview of the electrical systems?
Thanks for the tips! I'll check that out on Ebay. I got a Foxwell NT710 and it did a reasonably good job reading the modules but I'd prefer XENTRY. I'll likely return the FOXWELL to go that route. Here is a picture of the GL450. It's pretty much the baby getter and backup tow vehicle. My first venture into the world of MB!
I did motor mounts a few days ago. I'm a bit embarrassed I left the motor ground off that connects from chassis to AC compressor and it wouldn't start. Took me longer than I'd like to admit before I figured it out... lol. Sometimes it's the simplest things that get overlooked.
I believe its an X166, M276 motor, DE30LA Variant according to wikipedia
