Disabling Keyless Entry

Hello all,

this may sound odd, but is there a way to disable keyless entry, i.e. I want to have to press a button on the remote to enter the car.

We rent our X166 out on Turo that involves a lot of airport pickups at times when I can't meet the renters. I have a lockbox outside the car, but with the key inside that one can just open the door, so I bought an RFID-shielding pouch that works a treat. However, it is pretty large and barely fits inside the lockbox. Instead of trying to throw more money at a smaller RFID pouch, is there a way to disable keyless entry at source? I can't find a setting for it...

Thank you!

I don't know when MB first introduced the feature and I didn't see it mentioned in the 2015 owners manual, but disabling KEYLESS-GO is accomplished by pressing the lock button twice. That's been a staple feature of the MB key fobs for a while, but as said not sure when it was first introduced, so your fob may not have this feature.

Thanks for the response. It does have that feature. Bit of a tricky one to explain to a renter and rely on them to remember, though. Anything on the car side I can disable?

Nope, nothing on the car side. The faraday pouch is what everybody does who uses platforms such as Turo. As far as I know Turo offers hardware to install that allows renters to unlock/lock the vehicle from the app, so you can keep the lockbox inside of the vehicle. That still doesn't completely eliminate the need for the faraday pouch, because while the doors can't be unlocked if the fob is inside, somebody can break into the car and then drive off with it. Even with the pouch, you have no guarantee that the renter remembers to put it inside. The easiest would be a metal lockbox, because then the lockbox itself is a faraday cage shielding the signal.

I do the lockbox with pouch, but you'd be amazed (or not) how difficult the concept of putting the key fob back into the pouch at the end of a rental seems to be...
