Gl 550 question

Had a question, I had a bad driver side front CV joint and I took it out buttoned everything up to go to auto parts store tomorrow and now car doesn't move drive or reverse is it because I took axle out? Thank you, my dad was a mechanic and he's been gone a couple years now, I got this Benz to have something nice to limp out of since my deployment, I'm trying to save money and do things myself that dad taught me, I don't know much about AWD but I'm thinking I just messed up tonight, thank you for answering

I would bet that there is a sensor that knows that there is no drive shaft in place. It would need something like that for the all wheel drive mechanism to work. I would definitely not drive with a missing drive shaft. The shafts are on Rock pretty cheaply, and they deliver. I need to replace my front left, how difficult of a job was it?

There is a differential between front and rear axle in transfer case. So you took the axle out and it is freely rotation because of that. You won't be able to drive till it fixes
