2014 Mercedes gl450 engine failure
Hey everyone. I bought a 2014 Mercedes gl450 2 years ago. A couple months ago I started getting a code for bank 2 rich at idle. It wasn’t bad. No bad mileage and the suv ran good. On Father’s Day the engine would not start in my driveway. I tried to bar the engine over and nothing. It was locked up. I kept trying and it finally started to turn over. I figured my starter was junk. I replaced my starter. Tried to start it. It started right up. It’s been a couple months now. My wife drove down the street from the house. The engine locked up again. I had it towed to a European automotive shop. They confirmed it was locked up. I religiously changed the oil with full synthetic 5w40 every 6000 miles. I bought it at 117000 miles. I only put 30000 miles on this. From what the guys at the shop say. This is very normal for these engines. What could I have done to prevent this?

Nothing could have been done. The M278/M157 engine is known to be a grenade. Bore scoring is a well-documented characteristic. It’s a design defect from MB, among many other design defects from them.

Update
Hello mates. I just wanted to give an update. Yes indeed cylinder 6 was misfiring and required a coil to be changed along with the spark plug. I first ordered bosh plugs from fceuro and had an independent mechanic replace all 6 plugs and the the coils. Turns out the mechanic changed only the coil boots not the coils themselves. Shady mechanic went Mia after I spent a total of around $500. I ended up going to Mercedes where they fixed the issue for $2300. So for $2300 they replaced all of the coils and replaced the spark plug in cylinder 6 as they said it was flooding with fuel and was some what burnt out.
