x166 *front* passenger door lock not locking

In the past, I experienced the *rear* driver and passenger door locks not locking (unlock without key, alarm goes off, despite button going down when attempting to lock). You can find many others having the same issue in this forum and fixing it by replacing the lock actuators; one of the posts had the part numbers.

I replaced the lock actuators with parts 099-730-45-00-28 and 099-730-46-00 as referenced in the forum, and all was good for some years.

Now, the *front* passenger door lock is doing the same thing.

I went looking for the part number, and things got confusing. For each of them, there are three part numbers, all documented as "part 10 on the illustration".

In case it matters: I'm in the USA, so "front left" is "driver".

On the parts websites, front left could be 099-720-13-01, 099-720-87-01 or 166-720-01-35. All show up as compatible when I enter my VIN.

Similarly, front right could be 099-720-16-01, 099-720-88-01 or 166-720-04-35. Again, all show as compatible.

The prices are significantly more expensive on on one of the parts in each set.

How do we determine the correct part?

Note, our lock buttons aren't at equal heights already (the rear ones were unequal, before and after changing the actuators). I'm not particularly concerned about that cosmetic aspect.

As a *partial* answer to myself: I was able to look up the parts on spareto.com, which shows that each of the parts has a different third party equivalent part.

The parts are all for left-hand drive vehicles.

The third party equivalent parts actually have a small comment, which might mean something to someone, but doesn't immediately mean anything to me, such as "for vehicles with door pull assist" or "without double sealing" (this is more than was obvious to me on the Mercedes parts sites).

I still don't know why Mercedes sites can't just tell me the right part based on my VIN.

Following up on myself again, looking at the right door lock actuators:
- 099-720-16-01 has 8 pins (and is the most expensive part of the three)
- 099-720-88-01 and 166-720-04-35 have 4 pins

Could the difference be soft-close vs regular lock?

No, soft close is a different part with a motor in it. One website implied 'keyless go' is the one with the 8 pin connector. But it wasn't 100% clear.
