Odd question but I'm curious about the suspension on the AMG.
I'm going to take one for a test drive soon (cpo).
Its fair to say my driving style on the highway doesnt fit well with our 13' GL450 - 20 inch conti summer tires with no ads no active curve.
I took a trip w/the family last saturday. Twisting NY parkways with lane changing and quick acceleration & braking - the car was a bit unwieldy. I'm thinking maybe a 550 with active curve might be ideal. But since all AMGs have the active curve, I'm driving one to see. I believe the airmatic airbags are AMG tuned as well and the tires are bigger than the 550 so its not apples to apples.
Anyone have any experience with the various suspensions on the GLs regarding handling vs. comfort? Thanks for any feedback.

Had both a 2013 GL550 and currently have a 2015 GL63. Both ride on 21" wheels. To me there is little difference in the rides. The 550 had active curve. I can get the GL63 to ride just as comfortable as the 550.

Just bought a GL63 2 nights ago. Ride is totally customizable from everything to "corning on rails" to riding on squishy clouds.
Amazing vehicle btw.

I wanted the best of both worlds... In comfort mode, man it's unbelievable! I live in Chicago so the roads here are crap. I glide over them with the GL. Sport mode is slightly firmer, it doesn't stiffen it up to the point where you feel like you can track the truck or anything.
This SUV is as good as it gets, I'm not sure why would anyone need anything more. The best of everything in one MONSTER!

Glad to see that it can be sporty AND comfortable. Don't know why others make them mutually exclusive. Anyway, is there road noise present like the C series or is this closer to E or S quiet?

any road noise would be a factor of the tires.. not the car. I run both winter and summer tires (Pirelli) and ever noted road noise...Originally Posted by Gizmo AMG

I'd actually like a little more exhaust noise!

I had a 2013 ML 350 and hated the ride. Too much float and roll in the corners plus impact harshness over bumps. Bought a GL63 and the chassis is tight and the ride much more controlled and smoother...in all settings. Very glad I finally did this.
