New to me GLS63

Hey guys,

Just picked up a 2017 GLS63 yesterday and LOVE it already. Although this isn't my car, (it's my wife's) I am wondering if you can help me with a question of driving in Sport + mode. Prior to when I bought the car, the MB dealer stated that it was shifting harsh at low speeds (gear 1 to 2 change) because they found faults with low voltage so they replaced the battery. I get the car yesterday and same thing, shifts very hard from 1 to 2 driving normal. The service advisor states that this mode will ALWAYS shift very hard because it is only made to be in this mode on a track. Is this true? Just trying to make sure that I do not have any tranny issues. Thanks guys and sorry for the newbie question.

Only MBs - the best or nothing
OP, the 1 to 2 shift is hard only in Sport+ or do you get the same hard 1 to 2 shift in Sport as well?

Only noticed in Sport +. SA stated that the clutches are set up for track mode in that setting and the only way to shift smoothly is to accelerate hard.....

You can certainly use S+ on highways and even in cities(traffic permitting) without any issues and yes it is very aggressive which is what you want anyway if using S+. Them stating that S+ is only for the track is ridiculous. This is not a racing car, yes extremely capable for SUV, but not racing.

Sullivan-Parkhill sold you this car? Also, honey, don't ever buy a car that isn't working properly.

We have no idea what they are experiencing without seeing it firsthand. It's impossible for us to say whether or not it is normal. The fact that there was an existing problem is concerning.

Do you experience hard shifting from first to second in any other driving modes besides sport +?

Yes, welcome to the MCT 7 speed. Same experience across all my AMG's, current and former.

No, all other modes shift normal. It shifts perfect if I accelerate in Sport+, guess I was just worried for no reason.

Surprised this model doesn't benefit from the 9 speed gearbox.
Do share some pics of the beast when you have a moment.

Do you guys noticed the big lag from 2nd to 3rd? Only from 2nd gear I notice. Step on the gas in 2nd gear (not from standing still), feels like it were dragged back then launch off, probably takes three or more seconds for the car to move VERY annoying... sometimes dangerous, especially when need to pass someone/something quickly. Sport modes kinda solve the probelm but I don't want to drive sport mode all time in the city....
