Dealer reports GL63 needs a steering rack recall done. anyone have this done?
SubscribeWe were notified by mail that our 2014 GL63 w/ 22K miles needs the oil dipstick tube replaced under recall #18V272. When my wife called the dealer to schedule, they informed her there was another outstanding recall #18P4694011 involving something with the power steering rack. I called the dealer and they said the steering rack recall involved replacing some bolts. We've had zero issues with the power steering and I cant find any mention of it online. I'm VERY reluctant to give them my MINT car for 2 days to "fix" a problem I cant find any record of online. Anyone else have this "recall" addressed or has it shown up on a carfax report?

Yes, the steering rack bolts can fail. If they do, you may lose control of the car. From what the dealer told me, it's a big job and it will take them a few days. I think they had mine for three or four days.

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2016-2017 vehicles; STEERING
Report Receipt Date: APR 11, 2017
NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V241000
Component(s): STEERING
Potential Number of Units Affected: 58,323
The affected vehicles have an electric power steering connector that may be insufficiently sealed, allowing water to enter the control unit. If water enters the power steering control unit, the power steering assist may be deactivated, increasing the risk of a crash. MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the connector and inspect the electric power steering rack, replacing the rack as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge.

This was the reason for my GL's recall and yours. The one above was not for your GL. Yours is this one: "The aluminum mounting bolts that secure the power steering gear assist motor to the steering gear can corrode and fail, resulting in a loss of steering assist. Dealers will replace the aluminum bolts with steel bolts free of charge to resolve the concern."
