Owning out of warranty

Our 2014 GL63 extended warranty ends next month. My wife and I have loved this car, and thought of keeping it. However, I took it to the dealer 2 weeks ago as it was losing a quart of oil a month - had a leaking cylinder head cover. They also had to fix the air suspension twice in the last 3 years. Frankly, I'm a little frightened to keep this car past this month. I looked into aftermarket warranties - most wouldn't touch it, but got a 4 year 36000 mile quote of about $5000 from AAA. Unfortunately, it is mostly a powertrain warranty - only covers standard parts, not air suspension. Is it stupid to keep this car?

How many miles? And how many miles/month do you put on it?

The oil loss could be somewhat normal if you're putting decent mileage on it, turbocharged engines are known for this. Losing a whole quart every month via a valve cover gasket or other external leak and your engine and driveway would be a complete mess and the car would stink.

Air suspension on the other hand - yes expensive and troublesome, but one of the few 'common issues' on these cars so knowing and budgeting for that it might not be so bad to keep her. That, and changing the cam magnets and sensors before oil wicks up the wiring and causes a major headache which is only a few hundred dollars to take care of, and once it's done you don't really have to worry about that anymore (parts have been updated).

Everything he said is gold. Update those cam sensors before you need an engine out wiring harness replacement like mine!

Just did this to my wife's 2013. 3 of the 4 cam sensors were already starting to leak. All of the cam magnets looked fine but I replaced them anyway.

Is there a DIY for this work? Is it the intake and exhaust cam magnets and adjusters and sensors that need to be replaced? If I can, I'm happy to do it
