Independent shops in Colorado??
On another note, I'm also wondering the difficulty level of repairing these issues myself, but I haven't found very much useful information to determine if it's something I'd want to undertake. I'm certainly not a master mechanic, but I'm not totally inept either. I've replaced VW TDI timing belts as well as cam and follower replacement, valve adjustments on many Japanese and European motorbikes, replaced clutches and transmissions, etc. And a brother of mine is a mechanic with a vehicle lift at his home garage, so I'd have that resource if needed. Hmmm ... decisions.
Thanks ahead of time for your help
I'll admit that I didn't really expect this, but the dealership that sold us the vehicle has stepped up and is going to cover the repairs, which will be performed at Mercedes-Benz in Westminster (I had incorrectly identified this as MB in Thornton in the first post). While there are a few parts I would most likely replace if I were doing the work myself (turbo coolant lines with plastic portions and potentially the thermostat and its housing), I'm definitely not complaining about having this cost covered. Will update again when repairs are complete.
And whereas I generally don't trust dealerships to any great extent, as of right now I appreciate what O'Meara VW of Thornton has done for us. We had a few misgivings initially when we started looking at the GL63, but so far after the sale, O'Meara VW has replaced the main battery at no cost and is now covering this repair as well when they probably could have just told us that we were out of luck and that we'd have to cover this ourselves, as neither item fell within their powertrain warranty. The decision to take care of us was made by their service, sales, and general management departments.
