X166 GL63 M157 rad fan issue
Hey guys,
My brother has a 2014 GL63 M157 that since he bought it 2 years ago the radiator fan turns on and goes 100% even while the coolant temperature is not 90C/201F. He has replaced the thermostat with OEM, coolant sensor, coolant, and even tried a used radiator fan. Only thing that hasn’t been tested is an ECU for the obvious complications.
Any thoughts? I have an Xentry too I’ve used to scan it and look at some of the modules but no errors or apparent issues. Also dealer said is just normal when they couldn’t figure it out, but my CLS fan barely turns on until 80F+ summer days.
some additional things I’ve noticed between his and mine is that mine sits at 199F and the fan is not on, and when it goes to 201F the fan turns on about 50% and within 30seconds the car is back to 199F with the fan off/very low. His is off at 199F as well and turns on at 201F, but it doesn’t seem like his cooks off while idle, it’ll just sit at 201F until revved/accelerated? Which would imply thermostat, but is new?
Thanks.

most gl amg's have rear air conditioning in addition to normal air conditioning.they are also lugging around an extra 2000lbs to compared to your car. Totally normal. lots of heat load.
