Need a 7 seater. 2015/2016 GL63. Bad Idea?

I need a 7 seater. Is a 2015/2016 GL63. Bad Idea?

How is the reliability of the GL platform? The car would have bout 30k miles on it. Presumably stock.

What would need to be replaced soon, if not immediately? Besides suspension related items since the car is almost 10 years old by the time I'd buy it (end of this year)

Any thoughts?

How often will you have 7 in the vehicle? If so, there is little to no room for baggage. The platform is reliable but expect to replace rear tires every 15k to 20k miles or less. It eats tires like nobody's business.

get a good extended warranty to ease the pain as repairs are needed. It's a 130k truck so parts and labor are still for a vehicle of this price. Tires go somewhat fast but it's a big heavy truck so no surprise there.

My folks dont have a car anymore. I am probably gonna use 7 seats atleast 2 times a week. At the very very very least id need a E-wagon. Which I considered, itd be easier on the gas as well has having smaller tires to replace.

But with a 7 seater I wouldnt need to drive 2 cars when we all goto dinner. The other times its just me and the kids, the rear seats would just be folded.

As long as you aren't hauling much, it should be fine with 7. The 63 gets horrendous MPG's so, if that's even a question, go with an E wagon.

2021 GLS580 all black. 2014 GLK black (kids car). formerly: 2014 GL550 Palladium Silver (US)
I have a 7 seater ‘21 GLS580 and it’s the versatility we need. There’s still plenty of room in the back with the middle seats up. Or we can put one side of the middle seats down for extended tailgate space.
While a 6 seater could work for 5 people, adults would find it more inconvenient to get in /out should you need to seat 5, and that further reduces the space behind the middle seats.

2015 GL63
I have a 2015 GL63 with about 90k miles. I bought it with 50k miles one owner. I’m the second owner and it’s a definitely a family hauler. It’s been a good vehicle for me. We taking it on long road trips. I live in central coast California and we have driven it to Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Bay area, and Palm Spring to name a few. It does help that I do my own maintenance. Since I’ve owned it I’ve done my own oil change, transmission oil and filter change, front and rear rotors and brakes, and air filters. The main issues I had was properly the camshaft solenoid and sensors leaking oil. I caught it on time and did it myself. The other oil leak I had was the seal for my passenger side differential. Which I also did my self also. It’s a great vehicle but does require maintenance. Mainly brakes and tires. My next major maintenance will be my spark plugs. I do recommend the vehicle if you can do your own maintenance or can afford the maintenance.

See my posts about my experienced. 9 months out of 27 months at the dealership. I took a vacation with my daughter during spring break this year and we took the Boxster over the GLS because we didn't think the GLS would last long enough to make it. Sure enough, that week while driving around town the CEL came on with a misfire.

Get a good code reader, become friends with the service manager, and please please please get an extended warranty. Tires and brakes are the least of the expenses (they are super cheap if you buy parts online at places likes AutohausAZ and can do the rotors yourself). I switched to Vredestein all seasons and they wear incredibly well and are inexpensive.
