Realistically...

If I purchase the 2015 with 90k miles and me or my indy mechanic does all the work, will the transmission and engine last til 180,000 miles?

I plan on setting aside a budget for $10,000 to fix everything in the future,

Would this be doable? Thanks!

It will last if you do not constrain the budget. No way to authoritatively say what will break or when. Parts availability may become an issue. Best of luck!!

Just don't tune it or buy one that has been tuned and keep up with the maintenance, and you should be OK. Mine has over 140k on it and uses about .4 quarts of oil every 1k miles. I have seen some GL63's hitting 300k miles. Always do a search for ones with the highest mileage and see what you get. If you don't see any over xxx miles, you know that's probably all you will get out of it.

the first hundred thousand miles is easy. The second hundred thousand miles is as if you had a car payment again monthly. Every single plastic thing likes to break. That said one of my cars I had until 270,000 miles one of my current vehicles I have about 180,000 on and have no intention on getting rid of the current one. The other one I gave away to a guy who really needed a car. Probably bankrupted him

Budget or just go ahead and replace the radiator if it is original as it will fail. Go with the cheapest one as it will still be better than the factory unit. That one is garbage. Plan on new engine mounts every 100k miles or less if you drive aggressively. You will go through front struts every 100k miles or less. I'm still on the original rear airbags but I do have spares in case they go out. It's 15 minutes in the driveway when it does. The turbo coolant lines will fail ever 75k miles or less. Lastly, there is a hose in the back of the engine to the firewall that will leak. If you are losing radiator fluid, it may be from there and when it goes out it really goes out. Left me stranded.

I have a 2018 GLS63 with 51k miles and the CEL lit up last month. The actuator on the waste gate on the turbo was sticking. It's a $100 part except Mercedes doesn't offer it. You have to replace the ENTIRE turbo which requires dropping the engine. Parts were over $11k and labor was another $4k. Fortunately, I have CPO through 2027 so my out of pocket was zero.

AMGs are very expensive when something goes wrong. Budget accordingly...

After further review, I think I will pass on the GL63 AMG unless there are warranties on the car. Thank you everyone!
