Sam:
To lighten things up after the last poster (whom I will be sure not to argue with), have you seen the photos of the Iridium Silver GL63 for sale in Las Vegas. That's pretty close to your build. Looks good. There certainly are at least a few MY2013s that did not come pre-sold, as you noted.
Fab, I am still curious, did MB accelerate the build on some of the GL63s to get to the 60 you mentioned as having been delivered?

Do you have the wood wheel or the AMG wheel?

The GL63 at MB of Henderson (link in above post) does not show the spare in the trunk. I thought the manual states a spare tire in the trunk in trucks with B&O system.

Correct - no spare with B&O.... the quiet cabin accents the quality of both the Harmon Kardon and B&O system - my personal comment the B&O has fantastic sound field, but the "effective" bass of the B&O in the larger cabin of the GL is not quite up to more owner's expectations.. I wish there was the means to have more active equalization for the B&O system to tweak a bit overall... love, simply love the B&O soundfield..

I am going with the wood/leather wheel which would be in the Satin Ash. I know that is not your thing but I want the wheel (which is black) to tie into the dash that is brown and I think matching the wood on the dash will help. On my E63 with the Almond leather, the wheel is brown and it matches the brown dash - which I think works better. For you, the black wheel matches nicely with the black interior.
By the way, there are now 9 GL63s listed for sale. 6 of the 9 are Diamond White, so if you want a different color off the lot you have very limited options. I would still love to here from Fabbrisd1 about whether they accelerated the builds into May or whether they built more than the 100 planned. It still surprises me that so many (if you call 10 to 15 of those many) came in unsold.
Fab, any updates????
Kind regards,
Charlie

I was just going to post the same thing - we are up to 9 on cars.com and its going to increase as time goes. Some of the cars have been there for a while. You are right - It is surprising based on the original perception. I am not going to complain - Hopefully it will help on the price.
For me this MB saga will continue for a while. I placed an order for the new S class and the same thing of waiting continues. MB has many options that are delayed or not available - I am hoping with delays and allocations its not as long as I waited for the GL63 - 1 year.

I was going to go with the wood steering but switched it later. Time will tell if I like the AMG steering.

Yes - I hope your wait for the new S550 is shorter. The wait for the GL63 has been too long . . . What are the specs on your S550 order?
Also, quick review of the GL63 by an Australian car mag:

Just shy of 5,000 km's in two months, averaging 19L/100km (not great) hit 205km/hr once, for maybe 5 minutes! The car felt far more comfortable at that speed than it does in the city!
Some off road pic's for your amusement and a new car ready for detailing! Who say's these things can't go offroad, just choose your path wisely, some of the dips were bigger than the car!
Only two minor issues so far; rear passanger seat head rest won't auto retract to allow the seat to fold and a weird situtation where the car was in ECO Comfort mode but was operating in Manual mode in the back ground. Needed paddle shifters to change gears? Heading to the shop next week for repair!
Hope you all get your new cars soon and enjoy them as much as I'm enyoying mine!
Cheers!

Cookstar - I wish I could have waited for MY15. I have a good SA - hopefully we can agree on a price.

Wow this conversation died down ever since mbusa reallocated their my13 orders for my14...
May we speculate:
Since most of 2013 orders that were swapped for 2014 got late august production dates on their POs all the same, do you think mbusa a. will continue to make and hold 2014s and release them all at once, b. will release the early as they become available, or c. more delays to be expected?
I am kinda hoping for the b!

Not all "swapped" orders got same production date - yes, 2014's will be "held" for official dealer release 1st week September - that normally in Sept gets pulled back to 4th week August.

Cybernorth:
Yes - I think many of us are waiting for the spigot to open with the MY2014 builds. I think as we are getting closer the wait is getting harder . . .
Fab:
You clearly know your stuff but I will go out on a limb and say that the MY2014 GLs (save for that pesky diesel) will be released the end of July. I think the inventory levels are too low for MBUSA to wait that long for a release. So I am still hoping for an early August delivery of my late July build.
Also, there are some reports in the press about MB, BMW and a few others skipping the summer shut downs this year to meet worldwide demand on some models. I didn't see the Vance plant referenced but wonder if the typical week off in early July is on or off. If they are skipping the July shut down, I wonder if that could move us up by a week????
Kind regards

I enjoyed the photos! Liked the GL and the cool landscape (without trees - don't see that around here much unless its flat farm land). That one photo of the trail makes it look pretty rough. Do the Canadian GL63s come with summer tires like the US versions? I would think the summer tires would be even trickier on that stuff.

Thanks for flagging that one for me! I know there were no Pearl Beige GL63s produced for the US so I did not think I would ever see one even in a photo. That was cool to see. In case you are wondering, I am still fine with my Palladium Silver choice after seeing that Pearl Beige GL63. I must say, I am surprised at the number of GL63s percolating around Europe from that website. MBUSA kept touting foreign demand as limiting our ability to get more sooner here in the U.S.
Cybernorth - You made me chuckle with your comment on that personal space invading Mini . . .

Here is one in Iridium Silver:
http://www.autogespot.nl/mercedes-be...166/2013/06/18
I changed my GL63 to obsidian black for a while but then switched back to Iridium Silver which will remain my final choice.
The only question will be when will MB release the 2014s - Aug or Sept?
