I ordered a GL63 when the order banks opened but the dealer indicates that allocations and build slots have not yet been provided to them yet.
If anyone else on the board has placed an order, have you heard anything different regarding your order being accepted and a build scheduled???
We have to be getting close with the pricing released at $116,900 plus delivery at the LA auto show. By the way, the GL63 at the show is in Cinnibar Red. Interesting color.
Thanks

It is [currently] impossible to get diamond pattern seats on the GL63 from factory.
Edit: The GL63 does come standard with Designo, right? I thought I remember reading that somewhere on this board and the ML63 also has Designo as standard...

ML63 has "straight line" Designo Leather standard- no further options for interior upholstry aside from three colors, porcelain (white), black, and auburn (brown).
ML350/ML550 have MB Tex/ leather standard respectively. Designo Exclusive optional, which will net the quilted seats in three colors, porcelain (white), black, and auburn (brown).
ML63 cannot get quilted seats.
But then again I'm only an avid fan trying to put together information on what's available. It'd be nice to get someone more behind the scenes on this board **cough fabbrisd1 cough** at MB to answer this question definitively.

I am curious as to why you think the allocations will be any more difficult to get then, say, the ML63? While I think the GL63 will be a great vehicle, it is actually less special relative to the GL550 (than the ML63 is to the ML550) since the GL63 and GL550 share the exact same look (save for wheels and exhaust tips). And it seems just about every dealer has had at least one or two ML63s. (I am even wrestling a bit with whether I really need a GL63 over the GL550 since the GL550 is so close . . . but we will see).
What you are referencing sounds more like a Black Series allocation - which I appreciate is very limited. Or even a G63 allocation, where I understand the plant in Austria can only produce so many G wagons each day for all. MB plans to churn out 25,000 plus GLs per year (and more if people will buy more). So I don't see why allocations should be that limited (unless the demand from Russia and the Middle East for GL63s is that much larger than I would think . . .)
All that said, I am still waiting to hear about allocations from my fairly large dealer that has had and sold all of the recent AMG models, including the G63 and SLS so I am guessing that none have been allocated to date . . . but I would love to know if that assumption is right.
To answer an earlier post, the seats on the GL63 will be exactly the same as those in the ML63 - no quilted pattern option. I would actually prefer the designo pattern from the GL550 to the AMG pattern on the GL63 if I could choose . . . .
Kind regards

If you were to go the 550 route, I'd honestly try and steer you away from that and get a 450 with a chip, since the 450 and 550 share the same engine. While you would lose the AMG styling, I find it a much better value. (Basically either go all out or go base in my opinion). If you do go the non AMG route, you will get the diamond stitched interior should you choose the Designo package.

I hear you on the value proposition of the GL450. While styling is very much a matter of personal preference, I really like the AMG styling package that the GL63/GL550 offers. To replace that look on a GL450 would probably run someone like me (given how skilled you are I bet you could do it for a lot less) around $12k as you would need new front and rear fascias, the very sweet 21 inch wheels and exposed exhaust tips. So in that sense, the GL550 is the better deal for me given my preference for that more aggressive "look".
You are exactly right with your comment about the R63. The AMG styling on the R63 in 2007 made it look so much better (in my opinion) than the R500 that I would have had to have the AMG version (if I could have afforded it then). Plus you got the wonderful 6.2L V8, marvelous exhaust sound, better brakes, better leather, etc. I think the difference between the R63 and the R500 was so much greater back then then the difference between the GL63 and the GL550 today. With the GL63, you get the more powerful engine, better sounding exhaust (which is a big plus for me), better brakes and different wheels (that are not necessarily better looking in my opinion). I am guessing the suspension is the same (assuming you add the optional ride control suspension option on the GL550) but with the electric nannies turned down a bit.
But no worries, at the end of the day I am not sure I will be able to pass on the GL63. It is an extra $17k over a similarly equipped GL550 - which is not too bad. I guess I am just a little frustrated that I can't figure out exactly when that will be . . .
Kind regards,

I also think those were MB Germany owned GLs in the videos. It is probably the same white GL63 that showed up in Moscow for the auto show there.

And since you really like the aggressive AMG styling, then that makes sense that you'd go for the 550 since retrofitting it would certainly not be cost friendly. Getting an aggressive sound out of the 550 wouldn't be too tough though. An X pipe to replace the resonator would already make it louder/ more aggressive than a stock 63.
