Power Steering Malfunction See Owners Manual
My daughter's 2016 GLA250 alarmed after refueling. The error display said "Power Steering Malfunction See Owners Manual". She was able to start the car and drive it one mile to our home without power assist. She called up the in-car owners manual, and was surprised that when the manual opened it was not at the error message (she is spoiled by great smartphone and computer software). She eventually found the error in the manual. The manual told her to have the car towed. She called Mercedes and they arranged for a flatbed tow truck. Within the hour the tow truck arrived and hauled off the car. Mercedes called to confirm a successful tow while the car was being loaded. The fact that there was such a primitive error on a car with 600 miles is very disappointing. It appears that steering failure is not unique to the GLA250, as I searched our forum and found examples of similar failure for other models. It would seem that many of these steering failures are corrected with a firmware update. Too bad MB was not proactive and installed the firmware before the sale. I am happy it failed close to my house and not in the middle of the night during a snow storm. The dealer it was towed to is about 60 from her home. She took my Prius as her loaner... By the way, the error cleared when the car was loaded on the flatbed truck. Stay tuned...

Sorry I missed your reply. No, the dealer replaced the wheel and tire that was damaged, and performed an alignment. He said there was no suspension or steering rack damage. When the dust cleared, my daughter mentioned a large "pot hole". This must have been the problem. She (daughter) loves the car, and she feels very secure driving in snow and on icy Chicago streets.
