GLA250 Performance Enhancements /Boost adjustment

Hello everyone,

After years of absence I'm happy to finally be back in a Benz and on the forums. Please rediect this if there is already a thread on it, I have read some about tunes but, I wanted to put together a GLA250 thread for performance upgrades and enhancements. My last Mercedes was a C350 and there wasn't as much to get out of it over this little 2.0.

I wanted to see if what people were doing to get real HP/TQ numbers up, not pedal adjusters and ebay OBDII plug in "computers."

I was hoping to see what numbers people were getting with a tune, CAI, downpipe and maybe a light boost adjustment?

Thanks and I look forward to hearing your positive response!

Please dont "you should just get a GLA45" Im not trying to get into that territory,Thanks! lol

More reliable power for the MB 250

Hotcorner, thanks for the post. We're thinking along the same lines. I've had an E-350 BluTec and a CLK 500 in the past and both were great vehicles. I now have a leased Jaguar XE and to be honest, I'm hot impressed, so when the lease is up in March I'll be going back to MB. This will be my wife's daily driver and she really likes the size, looks and features of the GLA, but I don't want to go for the all out hp of the AMC model, and the 250 is just not quite enough power, so like you, I'll be looking for reliable power upgrades. I've had good luck with Malone on my turbo diesels and will check with him to see if he has a tune for this 250. That would be a good beginning.

If you are still under warranty something to consider would be a piggyback module such as ChipWerke or VR Tuned. You can get a very noticeable boost in power and it is completely undetectable by the dealer once unplugged. Once you go with an ECU remap your warranty will essentially be void for any engine related issues. I'm currently running a piggyback (Neuspeed Power Module) on my A5 for that exact reason. Running at the +8psi boost setting is good for around a 60 hp increase.

I will probably pick up a VR Tuned module for my 2018 GLA 250.

Thanks for the replies! I will probably wait till my warranty is up in 9 months and do a remap then. I will get to know the car in the mean time and put on a roof rack and bike hitch to get ready for biking/snowboarding.

I haven't seen anyone do a whole lot to the GLA250 yet, I wouldn't mind being one of the first but...anyone want to GoFundMe? I'll make youtube videos? lol jk!

I remember a post I made when the C250 came out, I knew that was going to be a good 4 cylinder, but the C class is too big for the 2.0 to really shine performance wise. I think the A/GLA body is the perfect size, especially with AWD. Still a tad on the bigger side, but as small of a car that I can comfortably drive.

what are your guys real life 0-60 in sports mode? I read some say 6.5 then some say 5.9, I know conditions vary and vehicle load, ect but what are you all seeing?

Just picked up a gla.
Is there any way to turn off traction control?
or is the fastest mode basically the S. seems like it TC kicks in right at full throttle just for a split second?

Took it out for some baseline testing the other night

19 gla250

57 degrees. High humidity
S mode. a/c off. Brake Torqued to 1900

has a huge lag letting off the brake.
60ft was terrible 2.1
But still ran decent for a cheapie crossover
0-60 in 6.0
1/4 in 14.45 at 98

Talking to Jacky at VividRacing for a piggyback.
Hoping it gets rid of that lag. That alone should drastically improve 0-60 and 1/4 mile times
But if it really makes 40+ more HP, then it will be a fun little car/suv

Just got the tracking info from Jacob. VR piggyback in on the way

I wanted to make another baseline in slightly better conditions

It was 58 degrees. But low humidity
this time only a 1/4 tank of gas and I took out the heavy tool bag filled with about 60+ lbs of AR500 plates

S Mode. A/C off.

I brake torqued it and it slowly went up higher?? 2400-2500!
I let her go and the usual delay, but then tire spin.
Then it felt like either traction control kicked on(if it even has it?)
or trans upshifted and it bogged slightly. High gear upshift was very sluggish as well
no bueno!
60ft was a 2.33
1/4 was 15.00@96.1mph
Note to Self: DONT leave that high

Traffic was still light, so I went back to make another
This time as I held it to the floor. and the rpms slowly came up. I let the brake go around 1500
same delay, but no tire spin at all. upshift was normal
60ft was a 2.12
1/4 was 14.35@99.1mph
0-60 was 5.95

Unless there is a way to get rid of that delay. I think this a maxed out baseline

I hope by the time the piggyback arrives. There will still be some cooler nights. But either way I will post results

If the delay is just as bad with the piggyback. Maybe I will pick up one of the throttle kits on the market??
