Exhaust Question

Sometimes when I start from a stand still my exhaust has this amazing deep tone that continues for a few minutes. Then it returns to the normal slightly higher tone that doesn't sound as good. Anyone else have this happen or know whats going on? I want that deeper sound all the time, actually sounds like an AMG when it does this.

Mine does the exact same thing. Kind of disappointing. I wish it would keep the lower tone.

Its a common startup mode with performance cars, the purpose is to get the cats to light off quicker for emissions purposes. The car reverts to normal fueling/timing based on either a set time or the O2 sensor readings depending on the car.

I don't think he's referring to a cold start. This happens when I come off of a red light or a stop sign, the exhaust note gets noticeably deeper for a little bit. I have no clue what made it happen but it sounds way better.

The length of your exhaust will change with temp fluctuations. That might change the tone.

My understanding is that the AMG Performance Exhaust option is just a flap that when there is enough exhaust pressure it opens and let's out the growl

On mine, it seems to work this way. This car is the most peculiar ride I have ever owned, with the starting and stopping, the exhaust notes, etc. The car is like a chameleon in that it switches in and out from being a high-end sports car to a placid crossover. Frankly, at my age it having that ability is great for me.
