Rattles in the cabin

Hi everyone,

I posted a similar thread on another site for GLA owners. Wanted to see if anyone here had different experiences. I have a pretty loaded 2015 GLA 45 AMG with the sunroof and performance exhaust packages.

Before I picked up my car, I noted several rattles which I asked the dealer to repair before pickup. Car still had them when I picked it up. Brought it in within a month to have them fixed. They had it for 2 days. Some were fixed, new ones popped up. Another month goes by and it's getting worse. Bring it in again after calling MB Canada who told me that the car should not have any rattles. They had it for almost 2 weeks. They fixed lots... it sounded great for about 10 minutes. Rattles started coming back.

I had/have rattles that are constant from the door panels and somewhere in the rear when I'm going at highway speeds. When I drop the pedal to the floor in sports mode, my passenger door panel vibrates in tune with the exhaust note. I understand some noises from the dash when you hit a bump... but this is different. It's coming from the windows, door panels and sunroof.

Just curious if I'm being nitpicky, or if anyone else is experiencing anything similar to this? The dealer keeps telling me that this car is a performance sports car and that it has a stiff suspension and that some rattling is to be expected. On the other site, most people said that they don't get any rattles at all.

I should add that I had a '11 C250 before this and it was perfect. Also, the three loaners they gave me - CLA 250, B250 and GLA 250 all did not rattle at all. I've had my car for almost 3 months now with ~3,000 Km's

I haven't had any at all. About 4k miles now. I don't think it's normal.

2015 GLA 45 AMG
Buzzing

I bought my 2015 GLA 45 AMG off the lot a week ago and drove it from Houston to Austin (2.5 hr drive) and about an hour into the trip noticed a buzzing noise. I isolated the sound to right above and in front of my head coming from the trim piece at the front end of the panoramic sunroof. I found that pressing on the piece stopped the sound and when I stuffed a small folded piece of paper between the plastic and the metal, it stopped.

I also discovered that the buzzing only happens on certain types of roads. I have heard other sounds, some synchronized with the exhaust (I have the AMG Performance Exhaust option). My conclusion is that if you have the sunroof you have all sorts of issues with trim vibration that can only be resolved by having the dealer install felt strips behind the problem areas. I get the latter from a similar post on a different board.

I am still in the 1000 mile break-in period and do not want to let the dealer at the car until that is over. I am methodically identifying all the noise issues so that they can take care of them all at once.

I have same issue with vibrations coming from passenger door, rear door, and plastic between the two doors where seat belt is housed. Very annoying! Mine is more when prevelant with bass from radio or on rough roads.

Texas roads have that effect on all automobiles. Secondary roads suck plan and simple. The farther south and west you go they just get worse.

Same thing with my car, except I have no sunroof. Just started. I too have the AMG and indeed it does seem to be on certain types of road surfaces, between 2-3K RPM. Sounds similar to a loose heat shield, but I think its coming more from the rear in my case.

Did you ever resolve your rattle and if so what was it?

Any updates from the previous owners?

I have a 1 month old 2016 45 that developed a knock rattle coming from the driver side rear seat/door area. A very distinct knock sound,

I have narrowed it down to

1) metal door pins hitting a loose plastic door pin hole
2) loose wire? in the rear airbag/speaker area?
3) loose door skin, prehaps a broken clip inside the door.
4) something loose in the rear seat belt tensioner

like others i like to itemize the rattle before i bring in the car to the dealer after my 1000 mile break in.

OH - MY - GOD

When I brought this to the dealer they though I was a madman. Main reason was - I couldn't replicate the damn noise during checkups!!

But definitely rattle sounds coming from right door (which I fixed - solution in a moment). And another rattling noise coming from the back - originating somewhere between the baggage compartment and the rear-seat, I reckon behind the rear seat back.

Couldn't locate and couldn't fix the rear noise.

Symptoms? High-speeds, high-revs. Sometimes high-basses coming from the radio but only randomly occuring. Its the high-speeds & high-revs (specifically on kick-downs on highways). Figures - high-revs means higher vibrations.

Regarding the right door - It originated from the lower storage compartment of the door (the point where the compartment is attached to the door - its upper border). I constantly "pulled it" towards me (as a driver) when the rattle begins and it would stop it for awhile.

One time I kinda pulled it too hard, and the "attachment clipse" of the upper compartment kinda "broke". The compartment is still attached, no visible damage, no issues with using it. Just a broken clipse you wouldn't be aware of unless I tell you. And since then? no rattling sounds AT ALL from that door.

God, I though I was going crazy until I read this.

Just touching base here - dealership tried fixing "loose heat protectors" or "loose wiring" (even "loose speaker") in my right door. Did nothing.

Check my prior reply to OP.

My wife thought there was something in the storage compartment that was making all that noise.

Thanks for the break-fix!
