Pre-owned GLA 45 AMG

Hey guys,

I'm new here, currently looking at a GLA45 AMG (or maybe C43 AMG) and I was just wondering if there's anything I should know about these cars used? What kind of future problems should I be looking towards? This is my first used car so I'm trying to do as much research as possible.

I am considering getting a CPO Benz and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it? Is it worth getting a CPO vs a used car? I know CPO basically extends new car warranty by another year and (unlimited mileage) along with the car having to pass some more "strict requirements" in order to qualify.

One of the issues I'm running in to is that on MBUSA.com, this GLA I'm looking at does not come up as certified but on the dealer's website, it's listed as CPO. I'm not sure if that's just "dealer certified" but they're an official MB dealer as they show up on the MB dealer look up. Or maybe the MBUSA site just isn't updated.

Thanks in advance!

There are three gens of GLA, moreover, its value is heavily option dependent. Posting the build sheet is the best way to get an informed opinion.

regarding the CPO concern, I would repost the question in a more trafficed sub forum, pretend its a c63, for ex, the answer to the root question is unaffected

The C43 is an average, or slightly above average, reliability Mercedes. Mercedes reliability is far below the industry average.

The M276 3.0L V6 TT engine in the C43 has relatively good reliability for a Mercedes. The rest of the car has typical C-Class reliability, which can be good, or not. Read through this site in the W205 section.

The gla I’m looking at has these options:
  • SiriusXM Traffic and Weather, Apple CarPlay, Smartphone Integration (14U), COMAND Navigation, voice control, DVD Player, Navigation Map Updates Included For 3-years, Android Auto MULTIMEDIA PACKAGE
  • Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control
  • Rearview Camera
  • Blind Spot Assist
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Distance Pilot DISTRONIC, Lane Keeping Assist DRIVER ASSISTANCE PACKAGE
  • DRIVER ASSISTANCE PACKAGE
  • Power Liftgate
  • Heated Front Seats
  • Tires: P235/40R20 High-Performance WHEELS: 20" MULTI-SPOKE
List price is $47,890 for 20k miles or so.

it’s def on the high end of my price range, any opinions? I was hoping to see if I could talk it down to $45k or so but I’m not the best negotiator - or rather I haven’t done this before.

What year is the car? Spending $50K if it doesn't have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto would be enough for me to walk away. I'd also get the VIN and look up the data card for the complete list of features and options.

I've had a GLA250 rental car before and OMFG. Regardless of the options, it's definitely not just a peppy version of that gutless turd. It's also still got some warranty left on the car. That's worth $5k-$8k depending on the mileage and terms. It's still not the car for me though. Maybe I'm missing it but I didn't see Recaro seats or CarPlay/Android Auto. Those are two boxes I'm checking before I'd ever buy another GLA45.

Apparently, some posters have malformed opinions about MB and reliability.

Just get a clean GLA 250 and be done with it.

That reliability study in interesting. It also directly conflicts with many of my 1st hand experiences. I'm sure others can relate. Chevrolet for example. My wife's Suburban has been nothing but trouble. I've had to replace the engine (under warranty) and the transmission. My mom had an '86 Suburban and it had all the same issues too. Should have learned. In fact, if you put that old '86 Suburban with a 454ci on a lift and look underneath not much has changed in 40 years except some plastic aero and bigger under-engine splash guards. It's still a true SUV based on a truck but it's still a minimally engineered pile of crap. How is Audi/VW so high on the list too? I know three people who had to get lawyers to lemon-law their VW's. In each instance it was recurring electrical issues that the dealer and manufacturer could not resolve. I've owned an Audi RS4 too. Loved that car but the carbon cleaning that comes with all of those VW and Audi FSI engines is ridiculous. I guess being down 30% on power after 75k miles doesn't fall under a reliability rating though...probably more like true cost of ownership.

Welp it looks like it's gone now but I think it had those things according to the listing as well as another vindecoder https://www.mbdecoder.com/decode/WDDTG5CB9JJ348500

not sure why it didn't show up on this one ...
