MBUX Add-Ons

Hello everyone! We just took delivery of a GLB 4-Matic and I have a question for the group. Our car didn’t; come with either SiriusXM or navigation. I knew going in that we could just use CarPlay for navigation. I was surprised that the car didn’t come with Sirius. I didn’t realize it was an option and I take full ownership of the oversight on my part.

I did a Google search about updates to the MBUX system and found that there is a possibility to purchase optional add-ons after you’ve purchased the car. Is anyone familiar with this? I believe that it may already be possible on the A-Class models with MBUX.

Here’s one of the articles that i found. https://www.motor1.com/news/302375/m...fter-purchase/

I would think it may be possible to add on these options if it is only a software update (non-hardware). If it requires additional hardware then I think you would be out of luck. For example, to get navigation you would need the GPS antennas and for Sirius you probably needs some sort of hardware/antenna for that as well. Conversely, the navigation and Sirius also has applications that work through WiFi data only, so I would think these add-ons would be WiFi data apps only.

Thanks! I think the hardware is definitely the question mark here. I'm not sure if all GLBs are being built with the GPS/Sirius antennas from the factory. Since we have CarPlay along with the Sirius app, it's not a big deal if we can't download either nav or sat radio. Overall, I'm very impressed with the MBUX system.

The OTA strategy totally makes sense for MBUX. Having said that, the stock navigation, even with AR is a few years behind Google Maps.
I have tried using the MBUX navigation quite a few times, it is up to date, yet it is still missing major changes in NY which are several years old.
The way of navigating is also awkward and it will often bring you to the rear of the business; there are missing street names and exits numbers.
You are better off with CarPlay using Google Maps, just hoping they will finally update to full screen and it will be golden.

2021 GLB AMG 35
I just got my 21 GLB35 and want to make sure I have the latest update for map and voice recognition. On Mercedes me, it states I have :

Map data
Installed:
Version 322
Available:
Version 340 (1.3 GB)
Updated automatically

Voice recognition data
Installed:
Version 280
Available:
Version 340 (352.1 MB)
Update available

I supposedly have automatic updates over the air vs. manual. I came upon a screen where it shows what's loaded, but doesn't seem to be the latest version. is there a way to "force" a OTA update?
Also, on trip to IN this weekend I asked Merceds a question about how to increase the volume for the route guidance. I started to ask my question too soon and she only got part of my question.. She replied with "Woof, Woof". Kid you not. I googled this and doesn't seem to be anything about odd replies to MercedesMe questions. Did someone hack my car!?!? I wasn't the only one in the car who heard this.....

I'm in the same boat with my GLB. I found a licensing feature for things like NAV, etc. Does anyone know if the XM can be added via software license?

I do not believer that XM feature can be added, as the car probably missing XM tuner. Some of the features that would be available to be added via MBUX Mercedes Me Store would be Navigation. However, Mercedes Me Store is not not yet available in USA. They have been promising to launch the app for last two years though.

Our GLB came without Sirius/XM. The dealer said NAV can be added easily since the antennas are already in the car for Mercedes-me, but Sirius/XM requires satellite receivers and cannot be added to a non-sat car. They recommended contacting XM directly for an add-on receiver.

Sirius XM has a store on Amazon where you can buy various tuners with a vehicle kit.
