Apple CarPlay Question

My wife has said that Apple CarPlay takes a long time to load on her MBUX system. Has anyone else had that issue?

Not really - if the connection is set "automatic" - it should be quick.

Check what cable she is using - I have seen some generic USB-C/Lightning cables that are slow - or some generics USB-C/Lightning are for charging only and are slow or don't work for data at all.

Use Genuine Apple USB-C/Lightning cable about $20 (white only) - or use the MB USB-C/USB media adapter cable with a decent USB/Lightning cable.

Thanks, I'll make sure that the connection is set to automatic. I drove the car last night and my iPhone started CarPlay without any delays.
Edited to add: This seems to happen with my wife's iPhone more than mine. Both are 11's running the latest iOS updates.

Sounds like your cable connection is A-OK.

At this point - I would suggest you "delete" your wife's Phone profile she has now from MBUX - then delete the MB profile from her iPhone - reboot (off-on) the MBUX - and reboot (off-on) the iPhone - and reconnect.

We have a thread going with the same complaint on the GLE forum. It is totally random on mine, sometimes it loads up right away, sometimes I have to replug 3 times.
I tried stock cable, then Apple cable...same results

I have the same problem...it freezes and doesn't load up...you have to unplug and replug it. It usually works.

Having the same exact issue in the GLC. Did anyone find a fix? Hopefully MB will fix it with Fresh Update 3.

The only fix so far is to wait until everything loads and then some, and only plug in afterwards. Seems to help.

I can confirm the same problems. Sometimes it works great. Other times it wants to be difficult. Music will always play pretty fast, even if the rest of the Apple CarPlay stuff doesn’t load.

Took delivery of a GLB 250 a few days ago; carplay is definitely wonky. Sometimes it will spin and then say it can't connect to carplay other times it will connect just fine. That said, in my model the only USB-C outlet that connects to the interface is the outlet near the cupholders. The two outlets in the center console (that opens) only charge the phone. I ended up buying this right angle cable which fits better than having cable sticking up -

Worth noting - when I connect my phone before starting the car - I don't have issues. Noticed that this past weekend.

Home button

I noticed that pressing the home button 1-2 times in the touch pad in center console Or in right side of your wheel and then selecting CarPlay on screen bypasses the long wait and goes right into it. If it doesn’t work just repeat - home button then click CarPlay again.

This is actually a thing. Very frustrating. In this case there are 2 iPhones involved as well. Tried 3 different cables- nada. Takes up to 10 minutes for my phone. Gotta be a thing.

Old SMS appears

I noticed that old sms/mms messages show up in the CarPlay display even if the messages were deleted on my phone. I found an article about replying to those messages from CarPlay. It didn’t work as it kept
on pulling 10 messages (from 2015 to present) at a time for me. Has anyone experienced this? Anyone know of any fixes aside from deleting them one by one? It happened on my iPhone 11 and it’s gotten worse on my iPhone 12.

Maybe make sure that there’s no dirt/lint on the battery socket of the phone. I used to work for Apple and that’s one of the basics that we check before replacing cables.

Airplane mode might solve CarPlay connection errors.

Whenever CarPlay doesn't work for me, I put my phone on airplane mode while connected. After I turn it off, it usually works.

I bought the same exact cable! It doesn't look as intrusive as the white sticking straight out of the center console. That said, there are times I need to unplug my iphone to get it to work.

Does carplay work if you have the da5 multimedia package? And is it wireless?
