GLB250
3 months with the GLB250

I've been driving my GLB250 since the beginning of February and thought I'd share my experience:

The good:

There is a lot of room, probably more than I need. The ride is really comfortable and smooth without being floaty. I came from a GLA250 and found the ride to be overly stiff and crashy over bumps- not so with the GLB.

The transmission is much improved over the GLA I had before. In the GLA, comfort mode was relatively smooth-shifting, but power delivery felt severely blunted. In sport mode, it was impossible to avoid jerkiness at lower speeds. I find comfort mode in the GLB to be very smooth, and power delivery is good enough that I don't find myself switching to sport mode that often.

The easy but precise steering, excellent visibility, and comfortable ride really make for a relaxed, stress-free driving experience. Also, I love the styling of the car, inside and out- everyone loves the LED interior lighting.

The not-so-good:

For one of my three months of ownership, I have been driving loaners from my dealer. I had a problem where the spoiler was becoming loose and catching on the roof of the car when I would open the tailgate. It made a horrible cracking noise. The spoiler was being ripped away from the tailgate, as well as denting the roof of the car. It took 2 weeks to fix, I had the car back for a week, then it happened again. Then it was back to the dealer for another 2 weeks. I've had it back for 2 weeks- so far, so good.

MBUX is certainly impressive, but needlessly complex. Doing something simple like changing from music on CarPlay to listening to the radio requires too much thought and effort. Of course, if you just use "hey Mercedes" you don't have to touch anything, which is good. Using CarPlay for navigation gives you a little "penalty box" map display, making poor use of the upgraded 10 inch screens. One of the loaners I had was a new C class. In that car, the CarPlay map used nearly the entire screen, which not only looked great, but was more useful. Also, when I start the car, it often won't initialize CarPlay and I have to go through a sequence of unplugging, then plugging in the cable, sometimes up to 6 or 7 times, before CarPlay will start. I am using a brand-new Apple branded cable.

MOST of the time, after I have been driving, when I stop, get out, and try to lock the car by touching the door handle, with the proximity key in my front pocket, the doors won't lock. I almost always have to take the key out of my pocket and use the button. Once the key is out of my pocket, I can also touch the handle and the doors will lock. Conversely, I am always able to UNLOCK the doors by touching the door handle with the key in my pocket. I am going to reset the car again today to see if that helps.

Sometimes when I get into the car and it's hot, I'll notice that the AC doesn't seem to be cooling very well. I see that the "auto" mode is engaged for climate control, and the temperature is set to something like 70 degrees. I figured out that if I cycle it out of auto mode and then back in, the AC will start functioning normally, running at a higher level, as you would expect when you get into a hot car. Also, it's been getting pretty hot in Southern California lately, and I've found that I need to keep the AC set to about 64 degrees to keep the car cool. Normally, as in my prior GLA250, I would have it set to about 72 degrees. The AC system doesn't have a problem cooling the car, but it's just odd and inconvenient that I have to set it at 64 to get it to around 72. Perhaps this will also be corrected by a system reset.

Anyhow, I really love the car, and it really delivers on everything that it promises. Perhaps this is evidence, though, that you shouldn't buy too early in the cycle of a new model. My lease was up though, so I went for it. I'm not regretting going with the GLB, but really hoping that I'm done visiting the service center, and that future updates will correct what may be software issues.

Cheers!

We picked up a brand new GLB250 4Matic a few days ago.

We have a GLA250 4Matic too. The GLB is indeed a lot smoother.

When test driving the GLB we decided to go for one with navigation built in with the 10.5 inch dual display. We are glade we did instead of trying to connect via Apple Car Play or whatever.

Our GLB is loaded with options including the pano sunroof. Last couple of days in SoCal was very hot. The AC was struggling to cool the car. Once we cycle the auto cool on and off AND set the temperature on both sides to LOW AND set drive mode to SPORT, the AC worked a little bit better but not what we would like.

I think it has to do with our panoramic sunroof letting in all the heat. All of our cars got the 3M Crystalline tints all around. So we got it done on the GLB ALL AROUND including windshield (90 tint), front side windows 40 tint, back sides, rear, and pano sunroof 20 tint. This cut down the heat transmission tremendously and now the AC does not have to work that hard to keep up 😁

One thing we noticed right away in the GLB was it's a lot more noisier vs our Lexus RX450h and LX570. I know it's comparing apples to oranges. One is a hybrid. The other is a V8 costing more than twice vs the GLB.

The augmented reality Navigation is cool.

We have not figured out how the auto parking feature with the active park assist works. Maybe this weekend when we have some free time. Just too many options on this GLB. First world problems, right?

Overall we like it. Our son likes it too as he will be driving it most of the time.

2024 E450 AT Wagon, 2024 EQS450+ / Had: 2021 E350, 2019 E300, 2021 + 20 GLE350, 2019 E450 Wagon(s)
I have had a GLB250 loaner for two months (long story - having terrible luck with an E450 wagon.) The GLB is a great vehicle - lots of room, looks sharp, good performance and crisp handling. I do think the AC is going to struggle with the pano roof and black interior = my 2017 E300 had this same issue. Overall, the GLB is a winner - I would probably option it a bit more than the loaner I have if I owned it, but it's a great vehicle.

The 3M Crystalline window tint ALL AROUND including the pano sunroof and front windshield in addition to all the windows is a must to reject all the incoming heat. The cheaper tints will not do the heat rejection properly. We noticed a BIG DIFFERENCE.

As far as options on the GLB250 4Matic...... Ours had an MSRP of $48xxx (base model is around $38xxx. So ours had about $10K worth of options which I think is the minimum to get the GLB up to spec where we are used to. We also test drove another GLB with the AMG appearance stuff and all the other bells and whistles with MSRP of $58xxx. We thought the $58xxx GLB was overkill and not really worth it unless with an even bigger discount. We got our $48xxx MSRP GLB for $42xxx which we thought was a reasonable deal.

My wife is thinking of getting a GLB, appreciate the feedback here.

PS. Lanzz, I'm thinking of getting a E450 wagon at the end of this year. What issues are you facing? Thanks.

I actually landed on this thread searching for windshield tint reviews but saw this and couldn't resist replying. I had a loaner 2019 E450 wagon ($77k MSRP) with 5200 miles recently. The suspension repeatedly bottomed out over dips in the highway where no other car I've driven had issues. I would suggest airmatic or pass on the wagon.

Thanks for the info. Was your the Luxury or Sport model? Personally, I'm thinking of getting the Luxury model as it has a higher ride height, its not lowered like the Sport.

It was a sport trim with 677 suspension and 19" rims. No excuse for it regardless on a new $77k Mercedes. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Yeah, I totally agree, ridiculous on any vehicles today, much less a $77k MB.

I was having issues with both driver and passenger side tints. I've only had the tint on for a couple of weeks on a brand new car. They both scratched and I was told that placing moleskin is a temporary fix. When I asked the dealer, I was told that the window glides have moleskin/felt in them. Would you know if your tint installers placed moleskin?

BTW, I agree that the 3M Crystalline all around really helps a lot.

Not sure about this. You are talking about scratches on the aftermarket window tints or the "tint" already on the car from the factory?

We had our MB's and Lexi window tints done by this ship with 3M Crystalline without any problems.

BTW, I was told by my tint shop to come back anytime if there are any issues. You might want to call up your tint shop and see. Or if it is factory tint, then a trip to the MB dealership is in order pronto!!

I am having the same issue with my tint; both driver and passenger side front windows. Did you find a solution? Any advise or feedback would be appreciated.

I had the tint shop place moleskine and it seems to have solved the issue.

I took it to another tint shop and they said they can’t replace the moleskin since the Benz windows are manufactured very tightly. By any chance you are in Southern California, If so what tint shop? Also what was the cost to replace moleskin?

Yes, A/C in not strong, and the reason to me is a bad design. The steering wheel is blocking left portion of 10 inches screen. GLB250 is the best choice I made.

What did you mean when you say RESET THE CAR....?

I bought mine in May 2021, No issues at all. But I will like to know how to reset it and what is the purpose of doing that?

Void your warranty?
Did you will loose something?

Thank You very much.

Craig, thanks for the great review. Regarding lock the car by touching the door handle - I have the same issue with my 330i when the key from the car and my phone is in the same pocket. Some phone frequencies interrupt key signals.
